Everyone has the same pompous, halting voice.
Revisado: 07-23-20
ok but drawn out story, narrator does every character in same pompous, halting tone. probably supposed to be abject condescension but got to the point that I could be bothered with the last 30mins.

Good story line but YA bordering on childish
Revisado: 06-03-20
The story line was quite good but the characters were pretty two dimensional and either 'good guys' or 'bad guys'. The main character has a phobia of women, he sleeps on the couch when his Marine cadet girlfriend stays over and gets tongue tied around most women. of course for this guy every female character is 'just stunning'.

Historia
In the 23rd century, humanity is enjoying a comparative utopia. Yet life on Earth is about to change forever. Feriton Kane’s investigative team has discovered the worst threat ever to face mankind, and we’ve almost no time to fight back. The supposedly benign Olyix plan to harvest humanity, in order to carry us to their god at the end of the universe. And as their agents conclude schemes down on earth, vast warships converge above to gather this cargo. Some factions push for humanity to flee, to live in hiding amongst the stars, although only a chosen few would make it out in time.

Not as good as the first book
Revisado: 11-10-19
An ok story but the character voices put me off, nearly every character has what sounds to me like an East London accent and the 'posh' characters all sound like reformed gangsters from East London. Ainsley's contributions are basically saying F#ck a lot, without actually coming up with any useful ideas - so much for the technical genius. Peter is one of the best in my opinion but I think I'll skip the final book in this series and wait for the next series.

Good SciFi, worth your time
Revisado: 05-31-19
The story holds together and progresses well. I notice a couple of people were 'upset' by the sex scenes, these are pretty tame and pertinent to the particular characters story.

Could be so much more with an editor
Revisado: 02-26-19
It's a good storyline with reasonable twists but it suffers from an overdose of testosterone in the face of basic common sense. The hero 'X' could still stand tall without all the BS. It dilutes the quality of the story and yanks you out of the very well created world. A decent editor could remove the discontinuities, the bad pronouciations of location names and apply a 'reasonable' amount of bravado.

The narrator from the Bobiverse series nailed it with his (recognisable) character voices - women, Russians, etc :-)
Did a good job establishing the characters and the plot was entertaining to the end.

Inconsistencies kill the last quarter of the story
Revisado: 06-02-17
I'm a big Ben Bova fan but I'm not sure what happened with the plot points towards the end of the book. Like some other SciFi available technology suddenly appeared unavailable for the sake of uninteresting drama. A couple of the key characters appeared to suffer split personalities, their characters changing so radically from scene to scene. The story line was made obvious to the reader but became frustrating as the characters missed the obvious. Struggled through to the end.

Historia
The Argus Space Station looks down on a nightmarish Earth. And from this safe distance, the Committee enforces its despotic rule. There are too many people and too few resources, and they need 12 billion to die before Earth can be stabilised. So corruption is rife, people starve, and the poor are policed by mechanised overseers and identity-reader guns. Citizens already fear the brutal Inspectorate with its pain inducers. But to reach its goals, the Committee will unleash satellite laser weaponry, taking carnage to a new level. This is the world Alan Saul wakes to.

Thriller Love Story
Revisado: 04-02-17
Very good story, especially enjoyed the narration by the author. Story starts off nice and steady but builds to a gripping pace, to the point where I listened to the book much later into a work night than I should have.
I'm not that into thrillers and some of the scenes took me past my comfort level but Luke got the balance right for the story and I was duely rewarded with a satisfying ending.

Discovered a new and talented author !
Revisado: 11-16-16
What made the experience of listening to Not Alone the most enjoyable?
A rare combination of a clever and interesting story, and the best narration I've heard in some time. The characters were well developed and James Cronin did an excellent job of bringing them to life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Not Alone?
When the characters finally meet the aliens, it doesn't become the high point of the story, the author maintains the key themes of people, politics and the power behind the scenes.
What does James Patrick Cronin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
James did a really good job on the individual character voices and emotions. This is simple but understated praise as I've had to return several books over the years because of the terrible narration.
Any additional comments?
I can't thank Mr. Falconer enough for this refreshing and well thought out story and hope he has many more SciFi stories to tell. I guess it's back to the regular space opera books while looking for more gems.
