Along with locals as slave labor, the American, Australian, and British POWs were forced to build a 1,200-mile single-track railroad through the most horrifying jungles and treacherous mountain passes.

Amazing true story!
Revisado: 10-03-22
This book is a great dog story and history lesson all in one. The narrator is very good, Has has a nice flowing British voice which fits the period and the story perfectly. The story is told from the detached narrator’s point of view which gives us more information about the bigger picture than a character’s point of view which I liked. In many places we see truth really can be stranger than fiction as it is amazing how Judy and her human survived at all. There were a few places that I may have quit listening if I did not know, from reading the description and history, that Judy would survive to return home with Frank.

Wow! A great new series. I was not sure what to expect but I loved it. Very ingenious to pair Moriarty and Holmes with an equally talented woman.

Revisado: 04-05-20
I loved this audiobook! It is the second is a delightful, engaging and original series based on A.C. Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. Moriarty, or rather the Moriarty’s, and Holmes team up to stop a medical murder for profit scheme hatched by prominent Alienists that treat rich women.
Spoiler alert
I am happy the Moriartys come clean with all their secrets and work their relationship out in the end.

Another excellent mystery!
Revisado: 02-21-20
Relatable characters, plot twists and human nature make for another excellent mystery by these authors. Ian Rutledge has become one of my favorite characters of all time and Simon Prebble was an inspired choice for narrator of this series. I have always appreciated the way this author presents PTSD and mental illness in general. The authors also are very good at writing a good mystery story. Please keep writing more in this series!

First off, I received this audio book from the author free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I liked this story. The protagonist, Jubal Smoak, is a very likable character. My only criticisms were that in one place the progression of the story seemed a bit choppy and the ending seemed a bit abrupt.

Historia
Fiery Deirdre Brannigan had opinions on everything. She certainly hated the very idea of war in 1914. Childhood pals Jack Oakley and Will Parsons thought it a grand adventure with their friends. But the crushing weight of her guilty conscience pushes Deirdre to leave Ireland and land directly in the fray. Meanwhile, the five friends from Newfoundland blithely enlist. After all, the war couldn't possibly last very long....

A story about the effects of war on people's lives
Revisado: 07-11-19
I received this audio book free from the author in exchange for a review. I enjoyed listening to this audio book though many of the topics are hard to hear. This book is very realistic about the damage war causes to the people in the midst of it. I especially appreciated the way the author dealt with the topics of addiction and PTSD.

Historia
Roscoe Ransom returned home from World War I, broken both in body and spirit, drowning his pain daily in a bottle of whiskey. But even alcohol can’t numb the agony of losing his wife or the fear of trying to raise his son, Junior, alone. However, the mind-numbing predictability of Roscoe’s life as a sharecropper and his role of town sheriff - a job given to him out of pity when he returned from the war - is suddenly upended when a black man in their tiny community is murdered and castrated.

Revisado: 06-19-19
I received this audio book free, from the author in exchange for writting a review. I did really like this book! The main character is growing up without a mother and with a father who suffers from combat PTSD, grief from losing his wife and is battling alcoholism. The boy also has a very special loyal canine companion, which pulled me into the story to me from the start. His father is a policeman in a small town that is being divided by racism, curuption and murder. The book is full of action but yet very meaningful.
