Historia
Inside a beautiful house in Philadelphia's ritzy Main Line section lay the body of a young mother - dead of an apparent drowning in her bathtub. With no sign of a break-in, no history of marital problems, and the naïve belief that these things sometimes just happen, Stefanie Rabinowitz's family prepared to bury the 29-year-old wife and mother. But at the 11th hour, because Stefanie was so young, and because there were no witnesses to her death, an autopsy was ordered. And what it revealed was unthinkable: Stefanie had been murdered.

Did not like narrator
Revisado: 07-19-23
I finished the book, although, I did not care for the narrator. The story was one I had heard before, nevertheless, very sad, especially for the child.

I finished this book only because it’s Ruth Ware and Imogen Church…but I wasn’t invested in the characters or storyline. Kind of boring…

Historia
The wayward son of a revered Civil War general, Roland Molineux enjoyed good looks, status, and fortune - hardly the qualities of a prime suspect in a series of shocking, merciless cyanide killings. Molineux's subsequent indictment for murder led to two explosive trials and a sex-infused scandal that shocked the nation. Bringing to life Manhattan's Gilded Age, Schechter captures all the colors of the tumultuous legal proceedings.

The men he interviews have been convicted of some of the worst things a human being can do, but it appears that the death was due to natural causes. When the house of the dead man is burgled and that crime is followed by a suspicious fire, Barton desperately needs to speak to his widow, but she’s nowhere to be found. In the space of 24 hours, everyone he wants to talk to has vanished. Then he receives some post, which makes him believe he could be the next to disappear.

I loved the series but not this story. I almost stopped reading on several occasions but kept going. If I had known how much content about child abuse/predators, I would not have chosen it. Besides that, it just wasn't as good as the first 3.

Historia
In 2001, a community of people in the Appalachian foothills had come to the edge of all they had ever been. Across the South, padlocks and chains bound the doors of silent mills, and it seemed a miracle to blue-collar people in Jacksonville, Alabama, that their mill still bit, shook, and roared. The mill had become almost a living thing, and they served it even as it filled their lungs with lint and shortened their lives. In return, it let them live in stiff-necked dignity in the hills of their fathers.

too much repetition
Revisado: 01-09-22
The story was fine, I learned things I never knew. However, the story jumped back and forth, repeating and repeating itself. But my biggest peeve was the narrator's mispronunciation of Garson Kanin's name!!! He kept calling him GARRISON...The man's name is GARSON...GARSON KANIN...I had enough with over 2 hours left...didn't finish. Much too long...should have been shorter. Just my opinion.

Historia
125 Gower Street, 1882. Sidney Grice once had a reputation as London's most perspicacious personal detective. But since his last case led an innocent man to the gallows, business has been light. Listless and depressed, Grice has taken to lying in the bath for hours, emerging in the evenings for a little dry toast and a lot of tea. Usually a voracious reader, he will pick up neither book nor newspaper. He has not even gathered the strength to reinsert his glass eye. His ward, March Middleton, has been left to dine alone.

Wonderful story...Beautiful Narration
Revisado: 09-29-21
This book was so wonderfully written...great, bittersweet story...The narrator, Ms. Toren, is utterly amazing, every word spoken brought vivid imagery and I was totally drawn in. I loved everything about this book! Thank you to the author, of course, but the narrator just made a beautiful story even better! Great combination... more please, from both of these brilliant women!

Historia
This fresh look at Hollywood's "Queen of Screwball," Carole Lombard, presents a first-ever examination of the events that led to the shocking flight mishap that took her life on the side of a Nevada mountain in 1942. It also provides a day-by-day account of the struggles of Lombard's husband, Clark Gable, and other family, friends, and fans to cope with the tragedy. In effect, having just completed the first sale of war bonds and stamps in the nation following its entry into World War II, Lombard became the first Hollywood star to sacrifice her life in the war.

Narrator utterly annoying
Revisado: 09-11-21
This heartbreaking story, was beautifully written, but it was getting harder and harder for me to stay with it because of the narrator. If she said “mount ten” one more time, I would have screamed! I did, however, conclude the book, it was too important to me not to. So sad, devastating for all involved...thank you to the author. Brilliantly done!
