Historia
Seventeen-year-old Leopold Berry is seeing weird things around Los Angeles. A man who pops a tooth into a parking meter. A glowing trapdoor in a parking lot. A half-mechanical raccoon with its tail on fire that just won’t leave him alone. Every hallucinatory moment seems plucked from a cheesy 1990s fantasy TV show called Max's Adventures in Sunderworld—and that’s because they are. Not a good sign.

66-yr-old female Attorney/Eng Major loved this!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I read and listen to all different types of books - literature, fantasy, mystery, etc., and I read a lot and listen to many, many Audible books while I paint and cook and drive. I picked this because I enjoyed reading the "Peculiar Children" series. I rarely do reviews, but I just loved this audible book. I think it was absolutely wonderful - sad, heartening, imaginative, funny. The only reason I gave it 4 stars on the performance is because the narrator needs to work a bit on his pace and pitch on the narration between the conversations. His dialogue work was great though. Can't wait for the sequel.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Ok - everyone calm down about the narrator change
Revisado: 12-13-24
I have to admit I was appalled at first. Louise has done this to me twice and these characters are almost like family! BUT, it takes just about 3 chapters to get used to the change. I really enjoyed the book (I have read or listened to them all). I love the characters, the description of the food, the jokes, the plot and can't wait for the next one. I did not give it 5 stars because Still Life is still my favorite. Try it. Mon Dieu, détendez-vous et profitez!

I am a 62 year old woman who majored in English and then became an attorney and I have always been a voracious reader. I thought this book was absolutely wonderful.

The language is beautiful
Revisado: 05-22-21
The language is beautiful. However, an editor should have cut 1/4 of this book. It is repetitive in its grief stricken language - unnecessary grief stricken language. It is an incredibly depressing book.

What disappointed you about Imhotep?
A good portion of the book is justification for a man sleeping with a minor - It's Egypt and a different time!

Historia
In 1980, the iconoclastic economist Julian Simon challenged celebrity biologist Paul Ehrlich to a bet. Their wager on the future prices of five metals captured the public’s imagination as a test of coming prosperity or doom. Ehrlich, author of the landmark book The Population Bomb, predicted that rising populations would cause overconsumption, resource scarcity, and famine—with apocalyptic consequences for humanity.

Revisado: 10-19-15
What did you love best about The Bet?
Outstanding book that helped me better understand how we got to the point in this country where we cannot even talk about population control, and how Global Climate Change could be questioned so long by the extreme Right in America.
