Historia
Lady Augusta Colebrook, “Gus,” is determinedly unmarried, bored by society life, and tired of being dismissed at the age of forty-two. She and her twin sister, Julia, who is grieving her dead betrothed, need a distraction. One soon presents itself: to rescue their friend’s goddaughter, Caroline, from her violent husband. The sisters set out to Caroline’s country estate with a plan, but their carriage is accosted by a highwayman. In the scuffle, Gus accidentally shoots and injures the ruffian, only to discover he is Lord Evan Belford, an acquaintance from their past.

Deals with the very real and serious issues of the day while still very entertaining
Revisado: 05-20-24
So often Regency stories only touch on the issues for women of the time. This book reveals some of the worst in an unvarnished way. Yet, the story is both funny and very engaging. By far the best book I've read in awhile. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Wonderful series
Revisado: 03-21-24
I doubted I'd enjoy it much since the main character wasn't a woman like I usually read, but I was surprised how I could still relate and impressed by how many plot twists there were. I've never been much into dog stories either, but this highly communicative dog is endearing. I look at my two little dogs now and think what fun it would be to know what they are thinking. Is it realistic? Not at all! But what fun would it be if it was? This is fun reading that holds your attention and keeps you wanting to know more!

Historia
England, 1920. Lady Eleanor Swift, adventurer extraordinaire and reluctant amateur detective, is taking a break from sleuthing. She’s got much bigger problems: Eleanor has two left feet, nothing to wear and she’s expected at the masked ball at the local manor. Her new beau Lance Langham is the host, so she needs to dazzle. Surrounded by partygoers with painted faces, pirates, priests and enough feathers to drown an ostrich, Eleanor searches for a familiar face. As she follows a familiar pair of long legs up a grand staircase, she’s sure she’s on Lance’s trail.

Historia
England, 1920. Eleanor Swift has spent the last few years travelling the world: taking tea in China, tasting alligators in Peru, escaping bandits in Persia and she has just arrived in England after a chaotic 45-day flight from South Africa. Chipstone is about the sleepiest town you could have the misfortune to meet. But then, from the edge of a quarry, through the driving rain, Eleanor is shocked to see a man shot and killed in the distance. Before she can climb down to the spot, the villain is gone and the body has vanished.

Revisado: 12-08-23
I don't know what other book the people read who complained; this is a Cozy Mystery and not a Pulitzer contender. It is great fun, and has a unique storyline unlike so many Cozy Mysteries. The characters are also unique and pleasantly unpredictable. I read many Cozy Mysteries and this is my new favorite. I look forward to reading more adventures!

A must read for anyone interested in mental health
Revisado: 05-03-23
This is an incredible story of the struggle of a person surviving unimaginable trauma as a child. While not knowing any other life she fights to find a "normal" life. All the while the story portrays the horror of the early mental health treatment of the early 20th century while portraying the humanity of the victims.
Anyone who has experienced long term trauma may find inspiration in the story of the journey of a woman to find a way forward through life after trauma. It is realistic too, in that even as an older adult, the issues still persist for many. So many stories try to portray quick resolution without acknowledging the life long process required to deal with such profound trauma. And still the story shows how life can still be fulfilling during the process,.

Not predictable!
Revisado: 11-21-22
So often you have a. general idea how the story will end a few chapters in. Not this book! It has a lot of unique twists, and yet they are all believable. It shows up the characters in a more complex way, and doesn't fall into stereotypes. I like faith incorporated in books, but even when written by famous authors of the genre, the inclusion often feels contrived. But in this book it feels genuine and realistic. What a great book!

Historia
Once, the Lamartine Hotel was a quiet refuge for New York’s stuffy fashionable set. But by the 1890s, fashion has moved uptown, and the lobby of the Lamartine has been overtaken by natty young sports, who pass their afternoons with billiards or shows of noisy derring-do. Their preferred damsel is Lila Williams, a delicate young telegraph operator whose shyness so charms them that they resolve to defend her against any ill-behaved characters. They are about to face their fiercest challenger, who rides in the gleaming armor of a millionaire.

An old fashioned feels good story
Revisado: 08-23-22
Nothing wildly new but so nice to read about an era where respect and a person's word meant a great deal; where even the rough guys could be seen as good, and people looked out for each other. No steamy romance, just a good story. I think it could easily be a play that a highschool could do. Just a comfortable, nice read/ listen.
