Historia
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Historia
Surviving Sibling Loss: The Invisible Thread That Connects Us Through Life and Death is the gold standard of grief books, helping not only people who are grieving but also their therapists, partners, and friends better support their loved ones. The chapters are deliberately short and full of easy-to-find resources, and the book can be listened to again and again. This structure aids those who are struggling, who fatigue and lose focus easily under the weight of their grief.

The fact that this addresses grieving the loss of siblings, which is difficult to find.
Revisado: 10-25-24
I liked that it was written by a psychologist who actually went through the process when she lost her brother. She was able to look at it both from a sister perspective as well as a professional in behavioral health.
I am 72 and lost my only sis one year ago after she turned 80. She was my best friend, my sister, and a mother figure. And she was my last living relative from my family of origin. We were very close. she knew more about me than I did. It's been a difficult time because my husband of 45 years then passed away 3 months after she did, 2 days before Christmas.
This book touched on nearly everything I was feeling and experienced through this complicated grieving process. It validated that I'm okay even though, at times, I feel like I'm not.
This book also is easy to read and not overly technical. It's practical.

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Incredibly enlightening!
Revisado: 11-15-20
Excellent book from both the perspective of a Trump family member and trained psychologist. I found the family history very interesting, especially how Donald's parents treated all their children and how the family pathology developed and molded their different personalities. Truly a tragic family in this regard. Also interesting is learning the actual financial backgound of the Trump family - the successes of Fred Trump and the consistent failures of Donald, which were promoted as succeses. Also tragic is how Donald and his siblings failed to follow thru and do what was right by financially protecting their brother's children after his death at age 42 and in fact stole their rightly inheritance. Greed is the highest value of this family - not family and love. This book is well written by Mary and doesn't come across as "sour grapes" but as a true ethical obligation to reveal from a unique and credible perspective the truth behind this dangerous man. It is more personal having Mary narrate it. It took a great deal of courage to make all of this public. A must read for all Americans!

Historia
In spring of 1918, World War I was underway, and troops at Fort Riley, Kansas, found themselves felled by influenza. By the summer of 1918, the second wave struck as a highly contagious and lethal epidemic and within weeks exploded into a pandemic, an illness that travels rapidly from one continent to another. It would impact the course of the war, and kill many millions more soldiers than warfare itself.
