Gentle reader
Revisado: 03-15-25
I liked most the gentle voice of the reader. She communicated unstated but calming emotion, apparently intended by the author, overplayed by harsh, fearful relationships.

Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Nice voice quality. No reading errors, amazingly. The emotion in her battle scenes was done skillfully.
However, the attitude that permeates so much of her "interpretation" is so full of sarcasm, that it is repeatedly irritating. But I put up with it as I had already read the hard copy of #1, The Fourth Wing.
Because of this grating, irritating, repeated sarcastic emotion, I would not choose to listen to another of her reads.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Amazing Thandie Newton
Revisado: 01-04-24
Thandie Newton is such a talented reader that many times I forgot that there was only one person reading! She switches voices so rapidly and seamlessly. And though I am not British, her performance of different accents seemed so real and accurate. I put her as one of the top readers in Audible.
The book? I've seen several versions of the movie,Jane Eyre (Charlot Gainsberg's is my favorite). But I now understand why it is a "Classic". For example, her descriptions of how and why a woman [or man] can be so diminished by her partner [at approximately 2h, 30 min before the end] is so detailed and. . . accurate, that it is relevant today!

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

UNIMAGINABLE READER
Revisado: 12-09-23
I'm only at the first 1/4 or so of the book. So far, an interesting story.
But I have to consciously ignore the sarcastic like tone that the reader relies on too often for showing "feeling". Quite irritating.
I also have to think about whether the person talking is speaking, thinking or narrating. it's hard to distinguish, at times because the voices aren't differentiated enough.
