Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 12-06-20
I listened after watching the series on Netflix. Books are always better, imo, and this is no exception. Great story.
I enjoyed the narrator. Her voice was easy to listen to and she spoke at a comfortable pace.

Historia
Ian isn't crazy. Life would be a lot simpler if he was. He's eighteen, on the run, and scared - the shape-shifting delusions he's had since childhood have turned out to be real. He's the result of a dynamic mimicry project intended to help undercover agents "go grey" and blend in unnoticed. Now the biotech company wants its property back, and the only people he can trust are two private military contractors sent to find him...

Entertaining story - annoying editing
Revisado: 04-04-15
Any additional comments?
A good, entertaining story with a good narrator. However, the editing had several sentences read twice throughout the book which was distracting and annoying.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Historia
In 1954, in the cookhouse of a logging and sawmill settlement in northern New Hampshire, an anxious twelve-year-old boy mistakes the local constable’s girlfriend for a bear. Both the twelve-year-old and his father become fugitives, forced to run from Coos County–to Boston, to southern Vermont, to Toronto–pursued by the implacable constable. Their lone protector is a fiercely libertarian logger, once a river driver, who befriends them.

I liked the book, but
Revisado: 09-23-10
The book is slow, as others have said. But still enjoyable, in an "easy to put it down" way. I listened to this book in pieces between other books.
The narrator's voice is nice, but his consistent mispronunciation of street names in Toronto was distracting and annoying.
Really only worth 1 credit though.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Truly Terrible
Revisado: 02-13-09
This is the worst book I have ordered from Audible in my five years of subscribing. The characters are flat and uninteresting and the plot boring and predictible. The good characters are sugar sweet and have never in their lives had a bad though. The bad characters are over the top mean and evil. And just to add a bit of fun, the author tosses in an abortion debate! I felt like I'd wandered past the downtown planned parenthood site and had to listen to the radicals screeching about "baby killers."
When ordering a romance, I expect light entertainment with interesting characters and a plot with at least ONE twist to it. This book was sadly disappointing.
