Historia
Years ago, the magnificent dragon queen Tintaglia forged a bargain with the inhabitants of the treacherous Rain Wilds. In exchange for her protection against enemy invaders, the humans promised to protect an unhatched brood of dragons. But when the dragons emerged as weak and misshapen hatchlings unable to fend for themselves, dragonkind seemed doomed to extinction. When even Tintaglia deserted the crippled young dragons, the Rain Wilders abandoned the burden of caring for the destructive and ravenous creatures.

Lost respect
Revisado: 09-13-23
The main character started off with promise but quickly fell, failing her first friendship test as soon as our little adventuring group formed in book one. Fawning over the attention of an older guy she lets her only friend there at that point leave defeated on his own. Later she's upset about him having a relation that wouldnt have happened if shed acted like a friend to begin with. She ends up choosing to have a relationship with a guy who planned and tried to essentially brain wash and rape her. She does so the very night he tries this. All the while she keeps stringing the original friend along, knowing full well his romantic interest while she plays with her bad boy. Eventually the bad boy gets so mentally altered he's beyond her control and can actually manipulate her. So she settles, yep, settles for the nice guy whos been there for her from the start. Frankly the way her character was going i have zero doubt if down the road her bad boy recovered and became himself again she'd drop the good guy she settle for like a burning coal and go right back to him. Her behavior killed the respect and care i'd felt in the very beginning and frankly i started zoning out when the book got to her parts just wishing to get past her and into the rest of the story. When she finally made her move for the good guy the best he could have done was walk away, she'd put him thru enough hell. He was happy to finally be chosen though and get his turn so in the end I couldnt even respect him any more. This is a good cautionary tale for guys and how things actually work in the real world. Learn the lesson here. If she knows youre interested even sacrificed for her and she still strings you along while starting a relationship with some one else, dont be that nice guy, put her out of your mind and move on, you'll be better off. The story as a whole I enjoyed but this main character really kind of ruined it for me. I feel like everyone got what they deserved, except her. She should have ended up by herself to reflect on the mistakes she made and who she'd become. Ive not picked up any more Robin Hobb stories since i finished reading this some time ago. If this is what she considers good relationship building and a just ending I'll spare myself any more of her stories.

Historia
Dr. Timothy Hoenikker arrives on Pala Station, a Weyland-Yutani facility. Lured there by the promise of alien artifacts, instead he finds a warped bureaucracy and staff of misfits testing the effects of Xenomorph bio-materials on living creatures. Unbeknownst to the personnel, however, there is an infiltrator among them whose actions could spell disaster.

Hot mess
Revisado: 09-13-23
They must have gathered all the stupidest humans in the company and dumped them in this one place. The scientists and engineers lack even the most basic common sense. Controls that open single door cages are not under key. Single wall layer cages with only a locking door and not a portcullis entry system. In other words, lacking even the most basic security. A multi murderer suspected corporate spy on the loose and they do not even bother to do a door-to-door search and just seemingly forget about him. Its just such a mess of incompetence, carelessness, and lack of planning for a facility that regularly experiments on Xeno’s that I do not even care about anyone there or the outcome. Its honestly possible high school science students could have put things together better in the facility. Come on, a corporation like Weyland Yutani sending an archeologist to assist in a science lab? They run out of scientists and have to use who ever to help in that role now? Guess their HR needs fired. By chapter 36 I really do not even care enough to finish but I have invested a credit in it. The writer had to create such an unbelievably incompetent station crew to make this story happen that I just cannot enjoy it. I can not recommend this book for anyone who likes the smallest amounts of common sense in their sci fi stories.

Historia
“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job - set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis”. There are just two problems: The colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets.

Interesting
Revisado: 09-11-23
There may be some spoilers of sorts here but having read some reviews I feel like there should be some clarification. Larry C. White's review would have you think this is some political hit piece, it isnt. We start out with a Iranian Colony falsely representing their colony to and then manipulating, detaining, kidnapping and essentially blackmailing a group of American mechanical contractors. One Iranian colonist felt for them. So no, "Iranians GOOD" as he put it doesnt hold water. Later enter the Marines. Thru the story the question comes up as to if these Marines are really acting on orders or if they're acting out their commander's particular agenda. About a third of those Marines die trying to put an end to it to do the right thing. So no, "Americans BAD" isnt correct either. There's even griping about religion in some revues but it only played so much a part of this book as to only really mention there were at least two religions. It played no substantial role in the book at all. Timerunner was turned off by a "talking friendly alien". Well, thats not exactly what it was, read and find out, and in the 80's there were story lines that involved actual good aliens that even permitted their foreheads to be numbered, not just one sorta alien. In the way this one is presented here, and having read a book connected tot his particular issue, I rather enjoyed its inclusion here. The story was interesting and certainly adds to the alien universe itself and isnt just a "look aliens" book. The characters were very diverse and most of them went thru a number of phases. The "main?" character Cheyanne I initially liked but as she progressed I really didnt care for. Others evolved differently. It was one of the few reads that I was actually wondering, Ok, whos going to make it to the end? So if you dont like the obvious, this is our hero, book, you should like this one. I found this to be entertaining. The Narrator has such a nice voice, i'd rather she read me bed time stories, but i'm not sure she was right for this book. I'm not sure I can really point out anything wrong with her performance though. So if you like some world with your aliens and not just aliens aliens aliens I'd recommend this book.

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

Hugely Satisfying
Revisado: 09-10-23
This Alien book, unlike most others I have read, has an ending and an epilogue, I found both VERY gratifying. Too many of the books from this franchise dont "really" have what I consider an ending. They reach a conclusion of sorts but dont really end. I dont know if its because the writer is hoping for a continuation or they just want to reader to imagine an ending they individually want. Books like Alien Echo and Isolation do this, end without really giving you an ending only a conclusion of sorts, ending a book chapter that another could start right up from. Phalanx though, not only was it original with its complex society, the struggle and dynamics of its people with and without the Aliens but the book had an actual ending and even the added touch of a most welcome epilogue. In my opinion, these features help propel what I already thought was a great listen into a masterpiece. If other Alien books have let you down with their soft endings and you really, finally, want an Alien book with a unique story and a truly satisfying and relieving (youll have to read it to get the pun) ending, I cant recommend Phalanx enough. I felt truly satisfied after listening to it and found myself reflecting on the story and its characters. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Agrivating
Revisado: 09-10-23
I had no idea this wouldnt be a book reading. I would have gotten my credit back if I'd known how. Since I didnt know how to I suffered thru it. Dont get me wrong it wasnt the material so to speak that was suffered thru, This was like starting a movie or sitting in a play blindfolded. I know now I could not enjoy listening to a movie because thats what this experience was. The story was interesting but as I'm realizing more and more with Alien "books" the ending isnt really and ending and isnt truly satisfying. At times the characters suffer from the same thing that happens in anime, they could die any moment and knowing this, they still have time for dialog that had me drumming my fingers expecting them to blow it as they continued talking away. I think I'll pay more attention to the narrated by list and if theres more then one name i'll skip it. This would have been more enjoyable for me as a read book then performed as a play or movie you could only listen to. Lesson learned.

Gwendolen Ingolfsson, hurled into a parallel Earth filled with billions of unaltered, antique humans when the molehole experiment she was working on malfunctioned, is very clear where her duty lies. As a member of the Draka, genetically engineered to dominate crude, unmodified humans, her task is to build a molehole device in this universe and establish a bridgehead for the Race to come through. It had been some time since the Draka last had such an opportunity for conquest....

Loved it right up till the end then I hated it. Not the ending I hoped to see play out and if there were an alternate ending version I'd buy it.
