Sarah Winnemucca is an American hero. The narrator does a fantastic job of expressing Sarah's wonder upon first meeting the prospectors and settlers and then changing tones to exasperation and helplessness as promises are abandoned and forgotten. This is a beautiful look into the life of this tough tribe and the way her people at first tried to acquiesce and live in harmony with newcomers. I'm very thankful for the indigenous narrator who gives Sarah such an emotional and relatable voice.

Wow, I've learned a lot about WW2 from books but I've never felt a story like this. Amazingly well researched but given enough heart to make this my favorite WW2 book I've ever read.

Beatifully written, does not glorify the men who fought but paints amazingly realistic emotional portraits of these citizen soldiers.

If you like WW2 books you've got to add this one now.

Really great book about one of the most colorful characters in Vegas. Jay Sarno steered Vegas in a new way through unearned confidence and enthusiasm. This book paints a very humanizing picture of a man who personifies Vegas to a large extent.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This books is for people who are fascinated by hypothetical political intrigue based on an outlandish change in the most basic of human emotions.

What was most disappointing about C. J. Cherryh’s story?

I just can't buy into the fact that the clone slaves who live and work among these folks for years and years are treated like lab mice, to be put down, brain wiped, etc with impunity. I didn't care about any of the characters. There was no protagonist to guide me through this sci fi world. 7 hours in, I could care less if any of the characters died. They were all weird, terrible, and had emotions I couldn't relate to.

What didn’t you like about Gabra Zackman and Jonathan Davis ’s performance?

Voices were all distinct.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Apathy.
