Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Basic
Revisado: 09-10-19
The author makes sense, but this is your general basic "seize the day" advice. There's nothing captivating about the presentation, and it's certainly not the original content or counterintuitive approach that the description claims it to be.

He's just laying the ground work
Revisado: 02-04-19
The first half of the book was pretty good. His discussions about how finding work and making a life are not the same thing was on point. However, at about the halfway point he sets his hook and starts talking about real estate, and the remainder of the book is really just laying the ground work for why you should invest in his how to get rich on real estate classes that I see him promoting all the time in my Facebook news feed.
I'm glad I didn't read the book until years after it was released, because I was able to see what he's doing today with his money - this book is like a rent house he bought cheap, and the reader is a tenant that he's happy to sell the house to for 3 times what he paid. You can read it in the language and specific examples that he uses when referring to real estate throughout the second half of the book.
Essentially, this book is just the first step in a marketing channel to find readers willing to drink the Kool-aid and come to one of his "free" get rich on real estate seminars (which are like a 'free' time share presentation - and the time share costs $40,000 - from what I understand from online reviews).
I won't be reading anything else written by Robert Kiyosaki.

Historia
Just as the industrial capitalism of the 19th century gave way to corporate capitalism in the 20th, recent decades have witnessed corporate capitalism evolving into a new phase, which Ehrenreich calls "Third Wave Capitalism." Third Wave Capitalism is marked by apparent contradictions: Rapid growth in productivity and lagging wages; fabulous wealth for the one percent and the persistence of high levels of poverty; increases in the standard of living and increases in mental illness, and much more.

Just shut up and listen
Revisado: 02-07-17
Have you listened to any of James Romick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
At times can be a bit like listening to a college speaker lecturing, but I totally dig that kind of thing.
Any additional comments?
I can see how some readers will insert their political opinions, whether they agree or not, into what they're hearing. Just put all of that aside, and you'll be in for an easy read that is well worth your time. I could listen to it again and again and pick up something new each time.

Liberating
Revisado: 01-24-17
It's not often that I clear my schedule and listen to an entire book in a single day, but this is so inspiring, captivating, motivating, and liberating that I just flat couldn't turn it off. It definitely helps that I identify with the authors, being a 6 figure earner that sold my home to live a much more simplified life on a farm not long ago. The book verbalizes my innermost thoughts, it's basically like listening to someone read your diary aloud to you. I loved it, and this will no doubt be a repeat listen.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Any additional comments?
I'm actually writing this review upon doing some library cleanup on my account. It has been about 30 days since I finished it, and I don't remember most of it. It was not nearly as engaging as I had hoped for it to be. If this kind of content fascinates you, then you will likely enjoy it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend.

The Millionaire Next Door is the better choice
Revisado: 03-19-15
Any additional comments?
I've listened to both The Millionaire Next Door, and The Millionaire Mind. If you've read one, you've gotten most of the content expressed in both books, and don't need the other, and the Millionaire Next Door was the better choice because the content was much more translatable. This book seemed like it was a lot of the think positive and you'll reach your goals, which I found to be patronizing and out of touch at times. It was an interesting listen, but not a very practical application to real life.

I accidentally learned a lot
Revisado: 12-22-14
What made the experience of listening to Gaining Ground the most enjoyable?
It was down to earth. The writer and narrator were both engaging and spoke in terms that anyone could understand. The stories were funny, and told in a way that the listener would remember them. They were also very informative, so I accidentally learned much more than I thought I would while listening to the story.

Either too dumbed down or too advanced
Revisado: 12-02-14
Any additional comments?
This book either went into notes that were far too generalized (such as a statement that horses like treats), or far too specific, (such as the exact measurement of a fiber of a type of hair). I did learn a couple of neat tidbits, though not nearly as much as I'd hoped when I purchased the book.
