Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words discarded or neglected by the dictionary men.

Spectacularly enticing story about words and women—will get you thinking in new ways!
Revisado: 08-30-24
So much to ponder upon the completion of this book…and also along the way.
This is one I didn’t want to end. I love how the author got curious about a current event—the next update of the Oxford Dictionary—and dug into its depths to help us all reconsider what we have taken for granted when our parents told us “look it up” when asking how to spell a word or what a word meant.

Historia
Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

Great reader, great story teller
Revisado: 07-20-24
We have long enjoyed the Veronica Speedwell series as a couple who like very different genre of books—my partner does murder mysteries and I do spiritual growth—though the humor and banter between this couple, as well as the very subtle descriptions of the murder (eg not gruesome…this was the most times blood was mentioned in the entire series—makes it a story we can enjoy together and feel good after listening. The world needs more of these delights right now!

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Gave me yet another perspective on my privilege
Revisado: 06-15-23
Stunning story of perseverance, grit, and determination. Also the
author is honest about her experience of racism and misogyny, past and present. She gives new angles to consider in the thought-provoking, soul- haunting way she shares her story with vulnerability.
Her reading/performance add an entirely new dimension as well.
She is beyond amazing while also being very real and human.

Historia
Meet Denver, raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana until he escaped the “Man” in the 1960’s by hopping a train. Untrusting, uneducated, and violent, he spends 18 years on the streets of Dallas and Fort Worth. Meet Ron Hall, a self-made millionaire in the world of high-priced deals—an international arts dealer who moves between upscale New York galleries and celebrities. It seems unlikely that these two men would meet under normal circumstances, but when Deborah Hall, Ron's wife, meets Denver, she sees him through God's eyes of compassion.

The purpose of this book is to clarify, to tell the truth, and to share my energies with you so that you can begin the transformation of your mind and, therefore, the transformation of your heart and your world. It is in the misteachings that have been associated with my name that much death and pain has been caused and that much guilt and self-recrimination has been expressed. That was not my purpose; that was not my lesson.

Not a Jesus person & I LOVE this book!
Revisado: 12-15-22
It is amazing I ever selected this book because I wasn’t raised on Jesus and I have over my life often felt excluded from Jesus, who seemed the property of the churches and their followers.
Imagine my surprise that this book has become my most-listened-to book over the past two years, often falling asleep to any random part of it or listening while walking or turning to it in the middle of the night.
I have shared this book with others and most have also fallen in love with the ideas and the updated perspective on Jesus and his life and teachings.
In the end this is a feel good book—good about yourself and your life and what is possible.
Dip your toe in. You may be amazed, as I was, and your mind transformed for the better.

Revisado: 02-16-20
What an interesting premise that has me rethinking how we live our lives as humans: what we value, how we treat each other and why we live the way we do.
These deep questions seem apropos for this time in the US’s history.
Already hoping there is a sequel!

In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

A book for every woman
Revisado: 10-18-19
I am just young enough, 55, to have missed the feminist pushes of the 1970’s, and so “feminist” and “feminism” have always seemed to be terms for a different generation.
Yet, “I matter” and “I matter equally” are ideas for every woman to take into her heart and contemplate. Better still, take into her heart and live.
May it be so!

Treat yourself to the unfoldment of old, treasured characters and be delighted by new ones, even down to the dog, Pip.
