A female lead without the patriarchal BS
Revisado: 03-28-25
Finally! A story with a totally bad ass female lead who isn’t preoccupied with an overwhelming need to find a man and have a baby. THANK YOU for not giving into the standard, “life would be so perfect if only I had a man and a baby” BS that most writers fall into, and for reinforcing that a woman is absolutely fantastic, and in this case a real force to be reckoned with, all on her own.
Great story, lovable characters, dynamic narrator. Please write more in this series, it is delightful.

Woman power! Love the Sphinxes. The narrator is superb and brings each of them to life. We need more stories featuring bad ass mature women. Hoping for another installment in this energetic and entertaining series. You will love it, regardless of your gender.

Wow wow wow
Revisado: 02-15-25
I am a huge JD Kirk/Barry Hutchinson fan & honestly I was skeptical, but had to buy this and give it a try. WOW. This is unlike any of his other work and yet, so gripping, so un-put-downable. It had me guessing to the end. The narration: Louise Brealey & David Tennant are superb. Loved the Zertex reference. All of it - Absolutely brilliant.

Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

I’m so bored.
Revisado: 12-29-24
3 hours into the story and absolutely nothing has happened. This has a decent premise, but is written in an overly verbose manner. Way too much trying to be clever wordplay and not enough action.

Amazing
Revisado: 09-19-24
I thought I had it figured out half way through, I thought, “You’re slippin, JD, you’re getting predicable.” I’m a bloody idiot. The killer totally surprised me.
This series has everything I want in an ebook. A great mystery, humor, and characters that I truly love. Pairing all that with the voice of Angus King is a winning combination.
Can they not make this into a Netflix series?

Only Got 5 Minutes In…

How Ironic
Revisado: 06-02-24
I found it ironic that this course is about meaningful communication but it was narrated in a completely condescending tone of voice. In fact, when I got to the chapter where the narrator started speaking about how important tone of voice is, I laughed out loud at the irony. It was also at this point (about 2 hours in) that I realized I was not actually listening to what she was saying and so decided to move on to the next audiobook in my wish list.
It’s disappointing as I was very interested to learn something more about effective communication, but could not bear to listen to this narration any longer.
This does prove that the concepts in the course hold true. The way you communicate has a profound impact on how what you are saying is received.

Historia
In a field known for startling ideas, the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics may take the prize. It holds that parallel to our own world are a large number of other universes, almost identical to ours but with small variations. Copies of each of us inhabit a myriad of these worlds. But they are not us exactly; they share our past history, but they are different people who have unique futures. Although these realms are invisible and can’t communicate with each other, prominent physicists are convinced they must exist.

I’m not a Physicist
Revisado: 05-31-24
I knew next to nothing about Quantum Mechanics or Physics in general before starting this course. I’m happy to say that I was able to keep up with the lectures (for the most part). I found the content fascinating, and I learned a lot. The Professor was engaging and easy to listen to.
