I Love a Good Mystery
Revisado: 04-09-25
I stumbled upon this as I scrolled through Audible looking for something new to listen to during my travels. I was pleasantly surprised, though I did call it early on (who had the ulterior motives). What can I say, I’m an overly analytical thinker. I didn’t see the other twist coming, however (so much for that analytical mind I just mentioned…)The voice acting was great. What a wonderful cast! Would love to listen to more voice work by Noni Hazelhurst and David Berry, who are both incredibly talented and have very distinct voices.

Great Read, But…
Revisado: 03-29-25
Where to begin…I really did enjoy this book, but for the love of...could Feyre be any whinier? Either be the heroine you're supposed to be or be the simpering, whiny girl wallowing in a perpetual state of self-pity and victimhood. Pick a lane, sweetie. She's the main character in the story and I can't stand her! I've rolled my eyes so many times trying to listen to her constant complaining that my brain feels like it's been run down a cheese grater a few times. I thought to myself "self, how do you really feel about this Feyre character?" | landed soundly on "I hope the bad guys just put her out of her misery". I did really like Lucian. For all of his smartassery, he's actually quite charming, patient (he'd have to be, wouldn't he?) and kind. And, for all of his faults, and he has many, l liked Tamlin. I really do think he means well, but he has his own past trauma to deal with, and having to deal with a whiny, puking, reckless girlfriend every day would drive anyone to make questionable decisions. I know, I know...l'm supposed to hate him. Perhaps I just WANT to believe he's redeemable. Either way, I guess the next book will tell me more of what I need to know about Tamlin. So, in a nutshell, I took away one star because Feyre irritated me. The narration is excellent. She does a great job bringing each character to life. I will be starting the next book in the series this week. I can only hope that Feyre puts on her big girl panties and stops puking long enough to try a little introspection and figure out how to move forward and leave the annoying toxic victimhood behind.

My Favorite Lord John Book
Revisado: 06-12-24
By far, this is my favorite Lord John book. What a fascinating and complex character Diana Gabaldon has created in Lord John. He has become my favorite, and unfortunately not seen enough, character in the Outlander universe. I mean, he’s “impossible not to like”, right? His many adventures (and just as many misadventures) have been getting me through the latest Droughtlander. Brotherhood of the Blade also gives listeners/readers more insight into his relationship with his brother, Hal. It delves a bit more into John’s personal “nature”, information I didn’t know I needed but apparently I did and found refreshing. We learn just a bit more about his relationship and feelings for Jamie Fraser. The introduction of, as well as John’s secret relationship with, his stepbrother Percy Wainwright kept me listening way past my bedtime. And Tom Byrd, charming and loyal as always, bless him, is the comedic relief you didn’t know you needed. This book is yet another example of Diana Gabaldon’s gift for storytelling. Jeff Woodman’s fluidly smooth narration is perfect, as always. Well worth the credit, just get this one!

More Lord John Please!
Revisado: 06-09-24
Diana Gabaldon never disappoints. This was such a good read. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Lord John better. I love that the Lord John books have a bit more humor than the Outlander books. He’s such a fascinating and complex character. His personality really comes out in this series. Jeff Woodman’s narration is spot on. However, Rick Holmes wasn’t the best choice for Jamie. For those saying Davina Porter should’ve narrated…no, just no. It’s bad enough that in the Outlander books she makes Claire sound like an 95 year old woman. I certainly don’t want to listen to her voice a book of mostly male characters. To those complaining about the m/m sex in this book…did you not read the Outlander books? Lord John is gay. All of her books contain sex. Why on earth would you think that these wouldn’t? Here’s hoping that Diana G writes more Lord John books and that Starz finally decides to give him his own spinoff series. There’s certainly enough material to draw from.

Lots of fun!
Revisado: 06-09-24
Clearly I’m a little late to the Outcast party, as it’s run its course and is no longer produced. But here’s my review anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed each episode. David and Tim are lots of fun to listen to. And it’s nice to get some insight into the Outlander cast as the people they actually are and not just the characters they portray. Reading scenes with guests as different characters is hilarious! I wish the podcast had continued but the episodes they put out were well worth my time. Thanks for the fun, guys!

Another Great Listen!
Revisado: 06-09-24
The Lord John books, novellas, and short stories are my new obsession. His adventures have been a great way to get through the latest Droughtlander. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about this fascinating, complex, and not seen enough Outlander character. Lord John needs his own tv series (pay attention STARZ). Now, let’s talk about the narration. I would very likely pay to listen to Jeff Woodman read the dictionary as Lord John. He has a lovely, fluidly smooth voice, is masterful with accents, and the dramatic inflection with which he reads is very effective. That’s it. That’s the review.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

One of the Best Books I’ve Ever Read
Revisado: 02-02-24
Diana Gabaldon is an incredibly gifted storyteller. In all of the Outlander books, she draws you into the world she created and you feel as though you are there. Her books, whether read or listened to, aren’t just a cerebral experience. They are an emotional rollercoaster of relationships, love, hate, loss, obsession, betrayal, intrigue, adventure, and history, with a little time travel thrown in for good measure. Outlander was exactly what I expected from this author; perfection. Davina Porter is an absolute joy to listen to and really brings the story to life for the Audible listener. Read/listen to them all! You won’t regret it.
