Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife, Claire, that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But fighting for the eventual winner is no guarantee of safety. And worse still, the possibility of pointing a weapon at his own son - a young officer in the British army - haunts Jamie's every thought.

Too Wretched Long
Revisado: 11-29-09
I have read all of Diana Galbaldon's Outlander books and just loved them, but this one leaves me cold. Up to the fourth part and it's very difficult to get through. "Too Many Words," as they say. Heard the ending is disappointing, but don't know if I'll ever get there.

Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Historia
This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 12-20-08
Wonderful, but thought provoking. The storyline reminds me so much of the movie, Slumdog Millionaire (or Q&A). Slumdog was written several years before the release of Shantaram. Couldn't help but wonder if parts of Slumdog were "lifted". Anyway, both the movie, slumdog, and Shantaram are excellent.

Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Gabaldon is a literary genius
Revisado: 06-28-08
I have listened to the Voyager, Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber and finally Drums of Autumn. All books in the series that I have listened to are magnificent. Authors knows that perfect narration is the key to an excellent audio book and Davina Porter is the absolute best. Will listen to them again. Just when you think Diana's story is "pat," she puts a twist in the story that makes you sit up staight and say, "Wow". Thank you so much, Diana and Davina.

Historia
For 20 years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his....

Historia
Set in the seamy underside of American life at the moment before the world changed, it juxtaposes lust for domination with hunger for connection, sexual violence with family love. It seizes the listener by the throat with the same psychological tension, depth, and realism that characterized Andre Dubus' #1 bestseller, House of Sand and Fog, and has an even greater sense of the dark and anguished places in the human heart.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

An Old Sory Repackaged
Revisado: 03-25-07
This is new age psycho-babble. It has all been said in numerous self-help books, particularly, the book written by Norman Vincent Peale, "The Power of Positive Thinking."
The Secret is just rehashed from foregone books. If a person feels they can think their way into riches and a better life, they will grow a beard waiting. Get real and get to work.

Historia
Lionel Walk, better known as Train, is a young black caddy at an elite Los Angeles golf course. There, he navigates between careless hostility of patrons and the volatile brutality of the other caddies. One day, he finds an unexpected protector: police sergeant Miller Packer, who Train dubs "the Mile-Away Man" for his distant gaze. Packer is investigating a botched and bloody boat hijacking that left a lone survivor: achingly beautiful Norah Still.

Train
Revisado: 07-17-05
Regarding the reviewer's comment that the last chapter had been left. This book is so intelligently written that the author went as far as he could without repeating the sad events that would keep happening to these characters. The ending left the reader feeling like these characters were just born "under a dark cloud." It's a great read. Life is not always a happy ending. It's real! I want more Pete Dexter books. Heard The Paperboy is another excellent read.
