What made the experience of listening to Still Life the most enjoyable?
Louise Penny has the rare gift of being able to create rounded personalities in the first book of a series. These characters are immediate favorites.
What did you like best about this story?
I most enjoyed the book's strong sense of place.
Have you listened to any of Ralph Cosham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not previously encountered this reader. He is perfect for these characters. He imparts of a sense of wisdom and generous humanity.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The author seems to be a master of bringing out the emotions of the reader.

I bought this book at an Audible sale to give it a try. Now I intend to read all the books in the series.

Thomas Abbey is a man stuck in a rut. To kick-start his life, he takes a sabbatical to work on a biography of his favorite writer, the mysterious Marshall France. Although Abbey has been warned that France's daughter, Anna, has blocked all previous attempts at her father's biography, he is surprised to find her the soul of small-town hospitality and quite excited about Abbey's proposal. Even stranger than Anna's behavior, though, is the town itself. The people seem to know what their future holds - freak accidents and all - down to the hour.

He could have endowed his characters with a generosity of spirit.

Mr. Ballerini's presentation was excellent. I have not heard anything else by this performer.
Was The Land of Laughs worth the listening time?
No.

This book is long on a sense of the inadequacy of the central characters and short on magic. However, some people might enjoy the underlying aura of malevolence.

This memoir is laced with wonderful stories about the French character, particularly in the world of food, and the way of life that Julia Child embraced so wholeheartedly. Above all, she reveals the kind of spirit and determination, the sheer love of cooking, and the drive to share that with her fellow Americans that made her the extraordinary success she became.

If you could sum up My Life in France in three words, what would they be?
It's a pleasure, as you can imagine, to hear Julia Child share her experiences and love of France. How sad, then, to have a reader with no understanding of the French language. Her heavy handed pronunciation spoils this story. What a waste.
Would you be willing to try another book from Julia Child and Alex Prud'Homme ? Why or why not?
Yes. The story is interesting and enjoyable.

See above. The reader is not up to the task. It is a challenge to even enjoy it. Why was she ever chosen?
