When a dark portal spewing shadow beasts opens into a research facility, Kaida’s unit is dispatched to destroy them. But with each passing day, she finds herself drawn to the sweet and socially awkward male who lurks within this strong and fearsome protector of his realm.

Single Narrator but Good!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I dont usually like single narrators but this one did a good job! sometimes male narrators use an overly sexual voice for all female voices but this one didnt! The story was fun & easy to follow! I love a good knot!

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

A good fantasy!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I liked the male narrator more than the female one, but they both did a great job! I loved the slow burn romance & the tension between them! The side characters like the fire sprites were so funny! I didnt think I'd like this one as much as I did but it was good! I really liked it!

Fun Paranormal Urban Fantasy with Romance Subplot
Revisado: 07-14-24
I had no clue where this one was going to go. It said enemies to lovers and I was like is Kian (I listened to the audiobook so I don't know how to spell his name!) really going to be her "lover"??? It had to be but they did not start out as enemies. It was more reluctant allies with a portion of future betrayal. Thus it was more like somewhat allies to friends with benefits to enemies. We shall see how this unfolds... I will mention the romance was a minor plot in this book!
The rest of the story had a lot of branching parts but they were all interconnected which we find out kind of how towards the end.
The narrator was good but I did not like the voice for Odette (spelling?) and Deliah. Regardless I would love more on Odette's story. I would read hers in a heart beat from the beginning! It was so interesting to me. I was honestly hoping for a true enemies to lovers there but then we learn why not..but I have hope LOL.
Definitely fun for people who are fans of urban fantasy as well as those who aren't, like me!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Sad, Shocking, and Gripping.
Revisado: 02-26-23
"You never know what someone is going through." I love this phrase, and yet this book constantly had me thinking back to my childhood watching iCarly and loving Sam. I honestly don't know how anyone found this hilarious or funny. Maybe the tone came off differently for people that read it.
Listening to this book was shocking. Some people have said, Jennette was devoid of emotion or read to fast. She did read fast but who cares? Adjust the speed, it is that easy. I do disagree with those that said her performance was flat. There was a lot of emotion in how she read that did not need the extreme change in her own tone to pull off.
I highly recommend this book and I do recommend people to listen to it if they can!
