Upside: Great narration, some interesting characters and fairly good story but.......

Downside: The story is utterly spoiled by a 23 year old protagonist who is given almost unlimited powers, is cocky, smug, superior, argumentative and provocative while unrealistically viewed by others as a charming rogue. I think the author may have wanted a lovable maverick but he creates a condescending jackass. However, it's all ok because almost every single character, including gods, think Jason is endearing.

It's hard to read a book with a character you intensely dislike and not sure I can go to book 2.

I have read the entire series and i highly recommend it for fantasy fans. The story is excellent, the narration is the best I have ever heard and the character development is very good, with one or two exceptions.

My only complaint is the relationships. I found in book 5 particularly, that the kissing, holding hands and constant innuendo was grating on my nerves and making me skip forward. Considering they are only 14, it seemed a bit much and it was my only annoyance, and unnecessary to the plot. I would have liked to used the wasted time developing the more compelling characters in the book but hey, a minor complaint.

Overall, i really enjoyed the series.

I often search for a light-hearted and fun fantasy series and this meets many of the criteria. It takes the common fantasy game party: warrior, mage, sage, acrobat and bard and wittily follows their fates as they gradually raise their experience level, often with good fortune rather than skill.

Really well written and narrated.
