The story is enthralling, it’s hard to stop listening, but it feels abridged. I’d have loved more backstory on all the characters, more from the perspective of the women as they cling to their sense of self under unimaginable circumstances. The story ends abruptly, and as a reader I feel cheated. We walk through this journey with them and don’t get the chance to really see them into the next chapter of their lives.

Rebecca is an iconic novel for a reason, and this take on the classic followed a predictable and boring script. The main character frustrates as she again and again makes nonsensical choices. The author wanted to write a strong female lead but needed her to also be naive for the story line to make sense. This book is riddled with cringy moments and recycled character arcs. I never leave a book unfinished, but I wish I never picked this one up.

It’s no surprise that this binge-worthy thriller was written by the same woman who who made the genre trendy. The story line, characters, and culture in Wind Gap suck you in almost immediately and hold your interest until the very end. Clear your weekend before starting this novel, you will be powerless to stop reading.

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys stepping into a scenario or walk of life that lies outside your own experience, you will enjoy this novel.

Agatha is such a well developed character that you, reader, will sympathize with her through behavior so morally repugnant you’ll question if anything in this world is black and white.

This novel checks all the boxes that make up a great psychological thriller. If you enjoyed Woman in the Window, Ella in the Night, Girl on a Train, the Wife Between Us, or the classic Gone Girl, give this story a go. But cancel those weekend plans before you do; once you begin you’ll want to snuggle in between the pages and stay until you find out how it ends.

Provocative, enticing, and irresistible. From the first chapter through the last Moriarty lays out plots and story lines that demand you keep reading (or listening).

Be prepared to feel great empathy in one moment and piercing rage the next as the story weaves through the lives of 7 major characters who unwittingly impact each other's lives - changing them irreparably.

This was a compelling and addictive read. I like to describe Liane's books as Jane Austen meets Desperate Housewives, and this novel was no exception.

After reading Big Little Lies I developed a hunger for more of Liane Moriarty's work and Truly Madly Guilty both sated and expanded my appetite. Unlike many of her novels, you have to invest a little time in this one before you fall in love with the characters, but the story repays your investment will interest.

Liane gives the characters depth as the events of the BBQ slowly unfold for the reader. Her suedo third person narrative allows you access to the motivations, past experiences, and insecurities of each character, giving them dimension and making it impossible not to relate to them.

I've described Liane's work to friends as Jane Austen meets Desperate Housewives, there's subtle beauty and depth to her writing infused with the drama of ordinary life - its tantalizing and leaves you wanting more.

I love the Game of Thrones series; it's an epic fantasy worth getting caught up in. The writing style leaves a little to behold, but that is easy to overlook once you get lost in the happenings of Westeros.
