Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Please, enough of this political tripe!
Revisado: 10-19-19
After three hours of listening I was sufficiently overcome with the author's politics that I gave up. My hope was that his protagonist would eventually overcome his victim-hood and further, see his Trump derangement syndrome for what it was, but clearly this wasn't going to happen. Perhaps this was intended to portray the effects of his protagonist's DC journalism experience but I've come to the conclusion that the opinions are those of the author.
Politics aside, the first three hours of this tome were so dreary that I felt I couldn't slog through the remaining 21. I'm asking for a refund as I buy Audible books for entertainment or enlightenment and this book doesn't seem to offer either.

The World's Finest Mystery & Crime Stories, Vol. 2
Revisado: 12-09-07
Really a mixed review. Technically, one story disappeared midstream and another began spontaneously. Another problem was a totally valley-girl type narrator that drove me to advance past her work. I did find may of the stories entertaining but generally was disappointed with the overall quality.

Historia
They laughed at Roberto Valdez and then ignored him. But when a dark-skinned man was holed up in a shack with a gun, they sent the part-time town constable to deal with the problem, and made sure he had no choice but to gun the fugitive down. Trouble was, Valdez killed an innocent man. And when he asked for justice, and some money for the dead man's woman, they beat Valdez and tied him to a cross. They were still laughing when Valdez came back. And then they began to die.

Fun recording! A little like watching the story on a vintage TV show but having your imagination fill in the blanks which is way better. I look forward to more stories to blank out the hassles of rush hour traffic.

Bad Luck & Trouble

The author doesn't paint the word pictures that I have come to appreciate from books I have read in the past but with a little imagination, possibly from past experience, my (your) mind will fill in the blanks. The story line is a good one and an entertaining one. In spite of my misgivings, I found myself enjoying the traffic clogged trips to work each day listening to the story as it played out.
