Historia
He was definitely dead, whoever he was. He wore a once-black jumper and a pair of shiny tracksuit bottoms. The back of his head was cracked and his hair matted, but it had been foxy before that. A tall man, a skinny rake, another string of piss, now departed. She hadn't gotten a look at his face before she flaked him with the Holy Stone, and she couldn't bring herself to turn him over. One messy murder affects the lives of five misfits who exist on the fringes of Ireland's post-crash society.

The Best Narration
Revisado: 08-06-18
Some stories are meant to be heard. Shelley Atkinson's narration of The Glorious Heresies made a fantastic story even better. Atkinson really brought the characters and their corner of Ireland to life.

Historia
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

32 HOURS of audio yet missing chapter epigraphs?!
Revisado: 04-08-18
My 2-star rating is based on the Audible version, which for some reason chose NOT to include the epigraphs that start each chapter. WHY?? Most of the epigraphs are pretty short and would've added AT MOST 15-20 minutes total to the audiobook, and when I went back to read them, I thought they only enhanced the story. To not include them when we're already investing 32+ hours in the story? I thought maybe different editions didn't include the epigraphs so I checked 3 different print editions of the book and they all included them. They are as part of the story as saying "Chapter 1" so I don't understand why Audible chose to leave them out in this otherwise fantastic narration. Maureen O'Brien did a wonderful job with this sprawling cast of characters. I know this seems minor but these epigraphs are part of the story and "unabridged" should mean including them. It's a shame that this marred what was otherwise a wonderful listening experience.
Actual rating of the book: 4 stars.
