Historia
It is 1950. London is still reeling from World War II, and Margery Benson, a schoolteacher and spinster, is trying to get through life, surviving on scraps. One day, she reaches her breaking point, abandoning her job and small existence to set out on an expedition to the other side of the world in search of her childhood obsession: an insect that may or may not exist - the golden beetle of New Caledonia. When she advertises for an assistant to accompany her, the woman she ends up with is the last person she had in mind.

Fantastic narration and story
Revisado: 04-02-25
A beautiful story of friendship and how it impacts your self worth and identity. A beautifully told adventure. I laughed out loud many times! Great sense of humor from the author got me through some of the sadder components of the narrative.

An epic storyline that stays with you
Revisado: 12-06-24
I read “We begin at the end” before finding this title. I thought the first was the best story I’ve ever read until I read this one. Although the book was long, I so didn’t want it to end! I rarely leave reviews because I can’t articulate the impact well. Just read/listen to this book. You will not be disappointed!

Historia
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Historia
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Narrator was great, details, twists and turns. Did not anticipate the ending. I can count on this author to consistently deliver a good read. And, to top it off, this title was in the audible plus category! I recommend

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Mixed review
Revisado: 09-30-23
I can’t deny the excellent story writing skills of both authors. On the plus side, I learned a lot about a complicated and hot button political topic. However, I am fatigued by the “shaming or blaming” of those of us who desire to treat others, no matter their self identification, with kindness and compassion, for not understanding the numerous and fast changing labels that continue to emerge from culture today.
The character of Olivia seemed to try to be honest in her seeking to understand but has to apologize every other sentence for not comprehending what is clearly not the norm. There needs to be grace from both “sides” in this ever changing landscape of identity. Secondly, if the narrator was chosen to make you not like the mother, then she did an excellent job. Her character was not relatable at all. Lilly’s voice was depressing but understandably so.
