Historia
Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden. In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees...and a collection of precious “butterflies” - young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.

horrific, unimaginable/unforgettable, incredible
Revisado: 09-30-23
I have read and listened to this book twice now and the plot, the twists and turns, the surprises, and the residence of the young women is incredibly well written to captivate and almost immerse one into their experiences. I like the audible version very much, with the changes of voices with the characters and also showing the different time and space the story was currently on. Example: from when the main character is speaking to the FBI about the garden verses when she is actually in the garden. I can't wait to read and hear the next book.

Historia
First came the shocking story of Rainey Paxton being born addicted to heroin and the sacrifices she made to accommodate her parents’ reckless lifestyle. Now comes the terrifying, extraordinary novel that picks up after Rainey’s release from juvenile detention. With no money and lost in a section of North Philadelphia dominated by gangs and violence, Rainey won’t accept that it may be too late to save Ivy. Instead, she pushes all limits to fight for her sister, surrendering herself to keep her vow.

inspiring and informing
Revisado: 08-11-23
The subjects written about are not easy to read about or listen to, but they are happening and even worse daily to some children around the world. The main characters show so much strength, hope, and truth throughout horrific experiences. This story helps to identify what experiences are actually happening, how it can differently affect one person to the next and how much more can be done to positively help others out there. Maybe by sharing these stories, society might become less judgemental and more understanding of what some have to face in this harsh world. Great work and even though my heart feels broken in a way, I'm also feeling like I've just ended my time with such a great character's life. until the next book I guess... such a great author.

Historia
Rainey Paxton was born addicted to heroin. In the fragile first hours of Rainey’s life, hospital doctors and nurses fight to keep her alive. Several months later, she is released into her parents' custody, where she is forced to live on neglect and tainted breast milk. Constrained in her home infested with drug addicts and drifters, Rainey’s drug-addicted parents leave little hope for her protection. While Rainey is still an infant, her aunt Sophie visits her and finds the baby dirty and hungry. A bond forms between the two until tragedy strikes.

incredible writing, inspiring journey through hell
Revisado: 07-22-23
I could not quit listening to this book, Rainy's journey through life from birth to her teenage years. Her pain, her fears, her strength, and her resilience, holding onto what little hope she could. Her character and persistent fight to survive and hold onto the ones she loves in memory and in life is the amazing message for others that have to face such abuse throughout life. My own experiences and hearing this authors stories helps me to understand and work with children that have face their own hell in their short live. It isa difficult subject to hear or read, but it is happening all over, all around us and these children need as much understanding and love as they can get. Paige Dearth has been one of my favorite authors since I read her first book and listening to them now has been great because I have not had as much time to sit and actually read. The narrator did an incredible job reading as well. Helped to immerse the readers into little Rainy Paxton's life. I've already begun the second book of this series.

Devastation
Revisado: 01-29-20
Not the story but the epidemic that I know too well from the outside. Watching my ex husband being our entire lives to ruin, to get clean and watch him try and drown me once more even unmarried is devastating. The sea of lies, loss, the never-ending cycle, the stigma that is unfairly given to the family left in ruins behind is unfair. I make no excuses for his choices and I don't hate him, but I will drown in his obvious self- destructive choices. I call her Lady H, the demon spirit he cherishes above all else, he breathes her in and out, she is constantly whispering to him, eventually consuming him like the beautiful mermaid, sirens out to see. He has laughed with, cried with and fought those blinding and deafening demons passed down by his father, n undesirable inheritance when he overdosed, and I unfortunately see the some inheritance being chained to our boys and I do pray, and pry harder. The intro is so defining, the attitudes and he stories very real. The struggle is consuming and you are brave to willing overcome such struggles and move forward to help those you can in a way that you are capable of. If not for the addicts, as an ex-wife, survivor~ barely, I appreciate the canidency as hard as it was to listen to.
