Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Historia
In 1925, earthquakes and a rising sea level left Lower Manhattan submerged under more than 30 feet of water, so that its residents began to call it the Drowning City. Those unwilling to abandon their homes created a new life on streets turned to canals and in buildings whose first three stories were underwater. Fifty years have passed since then, and the Drowning City is full of scavengers and water rats, poor people trying to eke out an existence, and those too proud or stubborn to be defeated by circumstance. Among them are 14-year-old Molly McHugh.

I'd do 3.5 stars if I could
Revisado: 12-02-23
The setting is interesting. The story felt a little all over the place. It spent a good deal of time setting scenes and spent little time on action scenes so it seemed to jump around in an odd way, kinda like a comic book, or tv show.
Minor Spoiler ahead:
The story has a "not ending", meaning that it ends in a way the sets up a sequel and barely resolves the main plot.

Historia
In the world’s most magical metropolis where spirits run noodle shops and cash-strapped dragons stage photo-ops for tourists, people still think fairies are nothing but stories, and that’s exactly how the fairies like it. It’s a lot easier to feast on humanity’s dreams when no one believes you exist. But while this arrangement works splendidly for most fair folk, Lola isn’t one of the lucky ones.

Weakest title in the DFZ literary universe.
Revisado: 11-12-23
I love Rachel Aaron's DFZ universe, so it bothers me to have to say that this book was a bit tedious to get through. The overall story was okay. There was a little too much time "setting the scene" as this book is clearly meant to set up the next books in the Trilogy and feel that hurts the story in the long run. All of the other DFZ stories felt pretty self-contained and had definitive conclusions. Between the introduction of Fae magic and Blood magic, there was a lot of exposition. Also, the MC was very annoying to deal with, she spent most of the story acting like a whipped dog and then out of nowhere gains the confidence to defy a Man who spent years "teaching her place". It's more of a setting I love so much that I've used it in a D&D campaign, so I'm going to rag on it too much, but Rachel can do better.
On another note, the audio on this one was weird and lacked the professional quality of other titles by Rachel Aaron.

Against all odds, Grimshaw Griswald Grimsby has become an Auditor, enforcing laws about magic for Boston’s Department of Unorthodox Affairs. But Grimsby soon realizes the daily grind of his job is far removed from the glamour he imagined. Overlooked for every exciting case, Grimsby tires of being told to handle mundane magical troubles, and appropriates a case file intended for a friend. Alongside Leslie Mayflower, the temporarily unretired Huntsman, Grimsby aims to crack the case and discover the origin of a strange, unfinished ritual.

It maybe my imagination...
Revisado: 10-15-23
It may be my imagination but I get the impression that the main character is a little dumber and less tactically minded in this book versus the first book. James much like his father seems to like beating the Hell out of their Main characters and leaving them in a worse state of mind than they started the story with.

Predictable but fun enough.
Revisado: 10-05-23
A bit of a slow starter, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to finish this book but I powered through it and didn't feel as though my time was wasted. I had a few issues with the Slavery subject matter and the cliche I'm a slave owner, but I don't treat them like dirt so I'm a good person character, but this isn't a book for deep thought. if you're the kind of person who is capable of shutting your brain off and just having fun this is a decent story. A lot of the plot elements are cliche, but not deal-breaking.

Slow and dull
Revisado: 09-09-23
I couldn't get past the second story. I typically listen while working and between the boring and unnecessarily long sections explaining the genre of Cosmic horror and the slow monotone readings of the stories, I found myself about to nod off.

Really annoyed with this one
Revisado: 11-28-21
Overall I wasn't really a fan of this series, but I stuck with it, cause I'm reading the other books set in this Universe. I was hoping it would fill in some of the gaps from the other books, and to a point it did, but this series felt very rushed and ends on a very unfortunate cliffhanger.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Meh
Revisado: 05-09-20
At time of writing, I was unable to finish this book.
I listened to roughly 2hrs of it and I really had to struggle to get that far. This is a book that really would benefit from a full cast (at least one female and male member min) cause I hate when they have a person try to do a voice of the opposite sex; worse when the only voices that person can do are Cockney British accents. The Author made the main character very sheltered and ignorant of the world as a way to excuse constant Exposition. the main character is a young "Ork" girl, who was meant to be sacrificed to a God. She ofcourse has doubts (who wouldn't? ), and conveniently a dashing wizard happens to be there and convinces her to leave with him and become his personal assassin, spy, etc.

Interesting but felt mishandled
Revisado: 07-05-19
I found this title on Reddit and decided to give it a try. It was very different. The premise of the book is that people who commit violent crimes and feels extremely guilty about it gains an Animal companion, that can cause them develop a special power. There's a lot of expositional parts, and the writer(s) felt the need to type out a lot of things that could have been shortened or hinted at, but didn't; so of course the narrator and run time tends to drag on a bit. I was initially pulled in by the the very premise of the book, but as it went on the holes kept being slid over: the main character often referenced her brother dying as a result of something she did, that somehow resulted in her being roped in to an accessory to murder charge, but it's not fully explained how, or why she was responsible for it. On the whole: the concept was a solid idea that needed a little more proofreading, and maybe a few drafts.
