Historia
In this original and meticulously researched narrative history, the author of the “stunning” (The Sunday Times) Young and Damned and Fair uses the sinking of the Titanic as a prism through which to examine the end of the Edwardian era and the seismic shift modernity brought to the Anglo-American world.

Too many rabbit holes and I have ADHD!
Revisado: 07-05-23
First of all this book is TMI. My interest in the Titanic doesn’t include an interest in the passengers’ sexuality or sex lives. Now when I hear Bruce Ismay’s name I have the unnecessary reference that his wife saw her marital duties as ending when she hit menopause. Why is it necessary for anyone to know this???
Second, there is no need to go down every rabbit hole that leads me further away from the reason that I bought this book. I don’t mind some interesting political, social and economic information that influenced this time period, but I didn’t need to jump down the rabbit hole on so many topics that are not necessary when discussing the Titanic. There was too much jumping around that I couldn’t follow the story line Third, there are parts of the book that is boring and the reader’s voice and cadence only made it more intensely boring. After awhile I found the reader’s voice annoying.
I wish I would have saved my money and skipped purchasing this book.

Historia
Based on the sensational evidence of the U.S. Senate hearings, eyewitness accounts, and the results of the 1985 Woods Hole expedition that photographed the ship, this electrifying account vividly re-creates the Titanic's last desperate hours afloat and fully addresses the questions that have continued to haunt the the world’s most famous marine disaster.

Not what I thought and glad it wasn’t
Revisado: 06-25-23
This book is much more than a blow by blow of what happened during the Titanic’s maiden voyage. It tells the story of US Senate investigation so you get tons of information about what happened, but the author digs deeper into how the Titanic tragedy shattered the innocent naivety of the early 1900s that technology could save mankind from the perils and hardships of life. It is rich in history of that time period with Taft as the president of the United States and the friendship turned rivalry between Taft and Roosevelt. The last few chapters are so eloquently written and thought provoking that I haven’t completely processed it yet. There are times that the writer gets into the uncomfortable truths of humanity and how much we as a society still haven’t learned. I have a feeling that this will be an audiobook that I replay often and each time gain more information and insight on the Titanic.
