All over the place
Revisado: 03-28-24
I love the narrators voice but she didn’t pause at punctuation so it sounded like AI a lot of the time which was really distracting. The narrator just ran through sentences as tho periods didn’t exist. The story was all over the place and the incantations were a bit much for me with the “say this rhyming thing”. The book was meh.

Historia
“This is one of those stories that begins with a female body. Hers was crumpled, roadside, in the ash-colored slush between asphalt and snowbank.” So begins Erica Berry’s kaleidoscopic exploration of wolves, both real and symbolic. At the center of this lyrical inquiry is the legendary OR-7, who roams away from his familial pack in northeastern Oregon. While charting OR-7’s record-breaking journey out of the Wallowa Mountains, Erica simultaneously details her own coming-of-age as she moves away from home and wrestles with inherited beliefs about fear, danger, femininity, and the body.

So brilliant I didn’t understand 1/2 of it
Revisado: 12-20-23
It took me almost a year to get through this and I still need to listen again because there’s so much I didn’t get. I think part of it is all the people and the French / German / other words and phrases. The thing is, I’ve read extensively on both Joyce and this time period - Sylvia beach, the lesbian movement that supported Joyce and other artists. Etc. I still got massively lost with all the people I didn’t know which made it hard to follow. I feel like I need to research in order to read this. That said, it doesn’t take away from the content and performance which are 5 stars. I just need to figure out who all these people are so I can follow.

Well written, well developed. What was the point of the ending tho? I just didn’t get it, clearly the author had a point to it but it was lost on me. It’s like running up to a cliff and then….

Historia
When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now, she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy. Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon—once a parable to her—are starting to come true, how much future is actually left?

Enjoyed
Revisado: 11-19-23
I never write reviews but feel inclined to as so many people have left bad reviews. I wonder how many leaving bad reviews are just not capable of following stories anymore, especially if they aren’t perfectly linear. As a high school teacher, I find this the case with many of my students. Lacking the capacity to follow a story or to envision what’s happening doesn’t mean something sucks or is deserving of a bad review. Perhaps working on how to read or listen is a worthwhile endeavor. Not that everyone will like this book, but it does bug me when people leave bad reviews not because the material was bad but because they lack the capacity to follow the story. I found this well worth my time.

Historia
In this groundbreaking new work, Mark Booth embarks on an enthralling intellectual tour of our world's secret histories. Starting from a dangerous premise - that everything we've been taught about our world's past is corrupted, and that the stories put forward by the various cults and mystery schools throughout history are true - Booth produces nothing short of an alternate history of the past 3,000 years.

Meh
Revisado: 04-13-23
I don’t really get what this was about. I love astrology and everything “witchy” but this book didn’t make any sense at all. I usually follow even difficult to follow books but this one was just so random. I leave it a score of “meh” - and I’m glad it was free as an audible member.

Historia
Little River, New York, 1994: April Sawicki is living in a motorless motorhome that her father won in a poker game. Failing out of school, picking up shifts at a local diner, she’s left fending for herself in a town where she’s never quite felt at home. When she “borrows” her neighbor’s car to perform at an open mic night, she realizes her life could be much bigger than where she came from. After a fight with her dad, April packs her stuff and leaves for good, setting off on a journey to find a life that’s all hers.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 05-18-22
This has been one of my favorite audio books. Julia is an amazing narrator and I have been seeking out books that she reads. Her voice is lovely to listen to and the way she reads the characters is positively amazing. As for the story - there was something about it that I just loved. The story line was, in some ways, not a story line. It wasn't about anything and was about everything. It was about life. It was so easy to press play every time I was in the car, or on a walk. I loved the character development. Most of all, I loved the way the story was about how we find the people that we keep and those who keep us. The people who are willing to look at us with all of our flaws, our parts and pieces - the ways they can really know us, and choose to stay. If life is about being ourselves and finding acceptance, this book beautifully weaves a life that is meaningful and worthwhile. I really really enjoyed id.

Loved it
Revisado: 09-13-18
I really loved this book. I have watched the series and it was worth listening to the book because there were many differences, but it can also be nice to use the imagination to follow a story and develop characters. The narration was on point and it was a joy to listen to. On to book 2!
