Historia
Nice Victorian ladies don’t run off to find legendary lost cities. One trifling little arrest shouldn’t have cost Ellie Mallory her job, but it’s only the latest in a line of injustices facing any educated woman with archaeological ambitions. When Ellie stumbles across the map to a mysterious ancient city, she knows she’s holding her chance to revolutionize Pre-Colombian history. There’s just one teensy complication.

Everything I hoped it would be!
Revisado: 12-27-22
Beautifully written, tender, harsh, relatable, restorative… so many words I could use to describe this book. This book is a portal- I felt seen, and loved, and heartbroken. Not in the flashy, dramatic, way of many storytelling mediums, but in the way that gently brings to light our broken places and heals them. Thank you for sharing this story.

Quaint
Revisado: 07-09-22
Probably my favorite read of 2022 so far. I enjoyed the characters and narrator very much. The one small downside is the predictability of the story, but I don't need every book to be an earth-shattering read. It was a cozy, fun, book to spend a few afternoons with. I would absolutely recommend!

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

It’s not the Martian, which should have been obvious by the title.
Revisado: 12-03-17
I read a lot of reviews complaining about how this book isn’t enough like the Martian, but I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. Artemis was NEVER going to be the Martian because the Martian was it’s own book and was already done! This is a great story that brings many political and economic realities to the forefront. I love how it makes parallels between the distant past, our present, and “the future”. Unlike many books set in the future it holds true to many cultural and religious norms which I LOVED. Essentially it creates a believable, relatable, future instead of a very “futuristic” flying car, artificial intelligence, kind of future. I didn’t laugh as much reading this book as I did Wier’s last book, but I still wholeheartedly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone that’s a science fiction fan. Here’s to hoping we see Artemis again in the not so distant future!

This is a good story completely ruined by the auto-tuned/computer voice performance. It's not quite monotone, and yet there is a very odd, emotionless, quality to the read. It feels very synthetic. I've never been so instantly turned off by and audiobook.

My son and I have been reading these together, and this is the first book series he's ever really enjoyed. It's on a topic he loves, the main character responds to things in a way that is completely relatable and there is tons of humor (clean and otherwise). We can't wait to see what's next!

Entranced at first by the Eloi, an elfin species descended from man, he soon realises that this beautiful people are simply remnants of a once-great culture - now weak and childishly afraid of the dark. But they have every reason to be afraid: in deep tunnels beneath their paradise lurks another race descended from humanity - the sinister Morlocks.

Up until senior year, Greg has maintained total social invisibility. He only has one friend, Earl, and together they spend their time - when not playing video games and avoiding Earl's terrifying brothers - making movies, their own versions of Coppola and Herzog cult classics. Greg would be the first one to tell you his movies are f*@$ing terrible, but he and Earl don't make them for other people. Until Rachel.

I can't wait to see what happens next!
Revisado: 10-18-16
I loved this story... maybe not as much as I loved the "Infernal Devices" series, but depending on where the next books take us I may end up liking it more. I hate that I can't just dive into the next book, but my guess is I won't regret waiting. The performance is a little monotone at times but overall an easy listen.

A simple fun story
Revisado: 10-06-16
Not the best book series I've ever read, but still worth a listen if you have some free time. It's quick and easy and doesn't require much thought (brain candy). There are some really nice undertones despite not being very long or descriptive. I would definitely recommend to younger girls looking to get into the fantasy genre.
