Historia
The Banished Lands has a violent past where armies of men and giants clashed in battle, but now giants are seen, the stones weep blood, and giant wyrms are stirring. Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. For if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind's hopes and dreams will fall to dust....

Really great performance of a very good story
Revisado: 09-03-22
My first foray into John Gwynne was his currently in-progress trilogy that starts with The Shadow of the Gods. I find his story telling to be very compelling. There're certainly some similarities in the stories; both have a war between the gods as the backdrop and feature a small number of characters whose points of views we alternate between as they make their way through a turbulent world, propelled by their own personal personal struggles and goals. My only criticism of Malice is that I found one of those characters to be a little less compelling than the others, but we learn important things about the larger plot through their eyes, so I was able to keep interested despite my ambivalence for the individual.
Great narrating, well read with strong pacing and good voice work that made the many characters stand out, I'd gladly listen to more good stories read by Damian Lynch.

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

I'll just read it
Revisado: 08-26-22
I returned the audio book after 10 minutes, so much emotion and dramatization put into every line by the narrator, no way I can spend 28 hours with this guy.

Historia
In the western sky the bright emerald banner of the Visitor descends like a portent of annihilation. On the continent of Jacuruku, the Thaumaturgs have mounted yet another expedition to tame the neighboring wild jungle. Yet this is no normal wilderness. It is called Himatan, and it is said to be half of the spirit realm and half of the earth. And it is said to be ruled by a powerful entity whom some name the Queen of Witches, and some a goddess: the ancient Ardata.

Searching through the jungle
Revisado: 02-12-22
I enjoyed this more than some of the other books in the series so far. Some of the characters were heavy hitters from the greater series, and their story lines were compelling at times. Some of the new characters kept me intrigued as well, but there's a lot of jungle to get through, and how the different parties endure can be slow going. All in all I thought it fairly well worth the journey.

This is a great book for those who love to endlessly philosophize about the same three subjects and hate any kind of advancing plot. Also, if you think a society filled with constantly infighting factions would probably have the worst security ever, then enjoy exploring that reality. This is where the story ends for me.
