Historia
The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Tedious, juvenile book
Revisado: 11-26-17
I really tried to stay with this book, but am amazed how someone can fill up so many hours basically writing the same thing over and over. Poor boy, lost his parents, everyone has it out for him but really he is a hero. I stayed with it by jumping chapters, but it didn't help - same thing over and over. And we are expected to believe a 13 year old boy would act and think like this one. I finally gave in, read the last chapter to find that his story is continued in the next book. Not one that I will be getting.

Worst narrator ever
Revisado: 03-02-17
This has got to be the worst narrated book I have ever tried to listen to. The story is not all that interesting - in fact it is rather juvenile - which makes it even harder to try to get through it. I am giving up and returning it.

Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he'd probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with megabank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

Returning this book
Revisado: 10-24-16
I needed a book on a long drive and that is the only reason I got as far as I did before I quit this book. It is simplistic, ridden with cliches, juvenile, and has the barest of plots.

Historia
When Deputy Coroner Mattie Winston and her boss/best friend, Izzy, are called to the home of waitress and part-time model Shannon Tolliver, they find the ghoulish Halloween decorations a bit too authentic. Among the fake blood and skeletons is the corpse of Shannon herself. Since the whole town knows Shannon recently had a very public spat with her estranged husband, Erik, he's suspect number one. But Mattie happens to know Erik truly loved his wife, and is simply incapable of the brutal act - even if he owns the exact same caliber handgun as the murder weapon.…

Waste of time
Revisado: 09-24-15
I was hoping that the second book would be better but was so wrong. Every cliché that can be thought of is in these books, as long as it can be used to embarrass and make the main character look foolish. The narrator does the best she can, but even she cannot overcome the continuing ineptness of the main character.

If Katie Bonner's late husband hadn't invested all their savings in the craft fair Artisans Alley - which Katie is now responsible for keeping in the black - the Webster mansion could have been hers to remodel. For years she dreamed of renovating the old place on Victoria Square into a bed and breakfast. Now that dream belongs to another young couple.

Did not like this for so many reasons
Revisado: 05-08-15
I had a really hard time with this one. I fast forwarded - a lot! - to get to the end. And if I had not been on a very long road trip with this being my only recorded book, I would have quit about 1/3 of the way in.
The people is in this book are universally unlikable. Katie's husband spent all their money on a craft fair and then died and left her with the business which was not making money - the husband who supposedly had the same dreams of a B&B she had. No explanation as to why he spent the money without her knowledge. The current boyfriend is self centered and uncaring, to the point I wanted to shake Katie for putting up with it. The people who are supposedly her friends treat her badly and she lets them. And all the time she is whining about needing to find somewhere to live in a few days. In the end, she is planning on manipulating her boyfriend to let her end up with the apartment he owned and had not wanted to rent her.

He's a reclusive writer whose imagination creates chilling horror novels. She's a down-on-her-luck actress reduced to staging kids' puppet shows. He knows a dozen ways to kill his characters with his bare hands. She knows a dozen ways to kill an audience with laughs. But she's not laughing now.

I have nothing good to say about this book
Revisado: 09-03-14
Like many others I have been a fan of SEP for years. I have all of her books, even the last two. Those last two were far below the previous ones, but they were readable. I could not get through even half of this one. Maybe because it was audible which made the dolls even more annoying and creepy, but I actually hated it so much that I could not finish. Every character in it was pretty much unlikable, the plot was trite, even the dialog was tired. I am definitely returning this one.

Historia
Acquisition of the King's Jar, a priceless African artifact, is a major coup for San Francisco's prestigious Devor Museum of Art and Antiquities - and the gala celebration honoring its donors is a high-stakes affair. Dani O'Rourke, Devor's chief fundraiser, is a pro at dealing with wealthy patrons, demanding bosses, big egos, and museum-world politics. Murder, however, is way above her pay grade, and definitely beyond her comfort zone.

Pleasant listen
Revisado: 06-04-14
This was a nice book to listen to while driving or working around the house. A little slow getting started, but the main characters were interesting. My only real issue was with the narrator, who did a fine job overall, but evidently was unfamiliar with some of the words and would mispronounce them. For example the word "coup" was used several times, but it was spoken as "coop".

When Lily arrives at an antique jewelry fair, her bargain sensors go off left and right - but she also picks up a faint vibration of magic. Could the hard-bargaining merchant Griselda be a fellow practitioner? It certainly seems that way when a sudden fire sends panic through the crowd, and Lily discovers Griselda murdered in a way that nods to an old-fashioned witch hunt. A crime that hits close to home turns into an unwelcome flash from the past when the police bring in their lead suspect - Lily's estranged father.

Series is beginning to drag
Revisado: 05-29-14
I am not a fan of series books - the first two or three are usually good and then the stories either start to repeat or are just full of filler. This is the fifth book in this series and there are definite signs of fatigue. Lily is suppose to be this really powerful witch, but all through this book she is weak, needing rescue several times and pines for her lost love through most of it. I finished the book, but if there is a sixth in the series I am not sure I will take a chance. I have enjoyed the first books of the series.

This could have been a good book
Revisado: 01-09-14
The narrator was very good, and a lot of the story was good. The dialogue was very well written, the story line was a good one even though it was a little drawn out, but the "hero" of the story was super annoying. Basically he whined throughout the whole book about his disability - he seemed to have a pity party in just about every chapter. I fast forwarded toward the end just to get through with the book.

"I'm Lexi Carmichael, geek extraordinaire. I spend my days stopping computer hackers at the National Security Agency. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work for a top-secret agency, I've never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella. Until today, that is, when two gun-toting thugs popped up in my life and my best friend disappeared."

OK story, really bad accents
Revisado: 12-30-13
The story is OK, not very deep and I would like it to be more about hacking than how inept she is around people. The narrator is fine with Lexi's dialog, but when she tries to do accents, they are so bad (especially Italian) that it is distracting from the story.
