Beautiful characters with relatable growth in extraordinary circumstances
Revisado: 03-28-24
Well-written and well-researched with compelling and diverse characters. This book swept me up so that I was plotting how to make it last longer when I was less than 20% done with the book.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Fun. Not art, very gory, but 100% fun.

Refreshing
Revisado: 11-09-21
Very much enjoyed author and narrator. I ended up listening to several chapters twice because there are many characters and moving parts of the plot. This has happened with other books but this was one of the few where rewinding was a treat instead of a chore. Definitely going on my recommendation list.

touching story
Revisado: 01-28-21
This doesn't really fit in any genre. There are no simple comparisons I can make to give you an idea of what to expect. As a lifelong climber and a father, this book was special for me because it is unique. It makes me want to climb. It makes me want to climb with my daughter, which means she will probably end up playing soccer (and that is just fine by me).

"This is real." Three small words on a film canister found by graduate students Justin and Veronica, who discover a long-lost silent movie from more than a century ago. The startlingly realistic footage shows a young girl transforming into a winged being. Looking for proof behind this claim, they travel to the rural foothills of Tennessee to find Sadieville, where it had been filmed.

terrific series
Revisado: 12-31-20
this series has been one of the best on Audible. I can't believe that they have not been getting more coverage. the story telling is immersive and the setting is fantastic. I hope this catches on enough for a Netflix or HBO series.

Highest Rating I have Ever Given
Revisado: 06-13-16
What did you love best about Red Rising?
Let me get the bad out of the way. The story line in RR is nothing new. However, understand that we have all read this particular story line dozens of times and will read it dozens more in our lives. How this story is told is truly special. I can't remember the last time I became emotional over a book, but this one had me smiling, crying, angry, and excited..at the same time. If you don't pick this book up because you figure you already know the story, you will miss something special. I have read hundreds of fantasy and science fiction books in my life. There are only two that I ever started again immediately after finishing. The Fellowship of the Rings and Red Rising.
