Enjoyed the next adventure with M. Thorne. Fine description of the times, historically and glimpses of society.

A bit disappointed with this narrator from the prior. The writing and story were good, but had difficulty distinguishing characters as they all sounded alike and stilted at times.

No score-horrible
Revisado: 08-02-23
Worst book and now I can’t get it off my phone! Hate the narrators, horrible language, no story, terrible content, waste of time and insulting to literature. No stars is true rating but rating would not accept less than 1 star

So she is shocked when her babysitter, Emira Tucker, is confronted while watching the Chamberlains' toddler one night, walking the aisles of their local high-end supermarket. The store's security guard, seeing a young Black woman out late with a White child, accuses Emira of kidnapping two-year-old Briar. A small crowd gathers, a bystander films everything, and Emira is furious and humiliated. Alix resolves to make things right.

Great book
Revisado: 07-22-23
Thought provoking book on many issues confronted in our complex lives. The shallowness in Alix’ character and Emira’s personal quality that is in direct conflict is beautiful. This covers some of the issues in interracial relationships, the awkwardness of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the pettiness of a lot of white people with $$$$. Emira is just like so many young people who really just want to be personally fulfilled, and don’t need to make a “statement”. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Cute story
Revisado: 09-09-22
I agree with previous comments that the author repeats basic facts way too often. A quick update in the subsequent books once is enough, it shouldn’t be repeated frequently as this author does. Cute story, funny, a little romance, and a little mystery. The performance gal is wonderful and I love her different voices. I do love the recipes that are included and I find it interesting that there is a vegan slant to this chef.

Story was Good
Revisado: 02-19-22
Love the story once again of this era. This new narrator, though, fascinated to old sounding for all these characters. The men and women all sound ancient. And that does a disservice to the young men and women in their 20s and 30s in this book. Once again the characters are lovely and Rosalind is up to her ears in mystery and heart palpitations of romance. But unfortunately they all sound like old maids and stuffy old men.

Not a good representation of Peters
Revisado: 12-07-21
This story was very flat and not much of a Peters representation. Little drama, no historical background, no character development. The narration proved to be even lower quality with a very flat monotone rambling that did little to bring the story any charm. Any attempt at Scottish accents was half hearted at best.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Beautiful story all through!
Revisado: 01-15-20
This was a beautiful romantic tale during a time off great change in a people and society. Mary Calvi's research takes you to a time that can be felt with clarity and beautifully portrays her characters with abundant Life. I enjoyed every bit of this book and although knowing the actual outcome, it did not diminish the story telling. Calvi's writing is simply beautiful. I think she showed us the best parts of this story.
