Very somber and thought provoking.

I enjoy Jack Carr’s writing. He does his homework so to speak and can explain in detail what he knows. This book and the revelation on events that happened 40 years ago goes to show how decisions we make today can have lasting effects for a very long time. Who knows when the ripples in the water will ever stop.

Meh….
Revisado: 02-28-25
I can only rate the book based on what I managed to choke down before stopping. Ever since reading ‘Tennis Shoes among the Nephites’ by Chris Heimerdinger as a young teenager, I have been a huge fan of the mystery surrounding Teancum.
There can only be assumptions made as to what Nephite culture was actually like. That is all left up to the authors imagination. My problem with this book began after the events surrounding Teancum’s father concluded. The story took on too many similarities to modern day life instead of what LDS scholars & archeologists have researched and discovered for the last 50 years. At one point it talks about religious activities and them happening every week. Or the character going to school and learning a trade, but it sounds more like he is going to college in today’s society.
Overall, I would not rate this book as being worth reading. Sorry Bro. Mow.

Historia
In 1980, a freshman congressman was gunned down in Rhode Island, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later. Now, with the world on the brink of war and a weakened United States facing rampant inflation, political division, and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites is ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong.

Good Book
Revisado: 01-31-24
I really like the way Mr. Carr uses his knowledge and experience in the military to write an intriguing and captivating story. At times I do roll my eyes when the descriptions of the various weapons start being used. I’m not an expert on them so a lot of the ammunition used just goes over my head.

Another well written book by James Dashner. Filling in so much of the back story that we only get glimpses of in the first three books.

Bad Narration
Revisado: 12-11-21
The story was okay. Learning the background of President Snow. But the worst was the narrator. At least the ones that narrated the original Hunger Games books attempted to sing the songs in the story. Not even a hint of an attempt. And “The Hanging Tree” song already had a tune from the other books. Easily followed or picked up by a competent narrator.

It’s about time!!
Revisado: 07-19-21
I am a huge Tom Clancy fan. As such I have followed the books from the beginning, both Ryanverse & The Campus. In the off months as I wait for the next book release, I have become a fan of The Gray Man series. Over the last several years, given the similarity of the two story lines, I have often wondered what it would be like if the two crossed paths, even if just briefly. Then to my surprise, here in Chapter 26, the subtle reference to The Gray Man series by Mark Greaney. Loved it and made me laugh out loud. Thanks to all the authors that collaborate together to try and keep this series and story line going.

Historia
In November 1965, some 450 men of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these actions at the landing zones X-Ray and Albany constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. How these men persevered makes a vivid portrait of war at its most inspiring and devastating.

So much better than the movie!!
Revisado: 02-13-19
I’m one of those people who watched the movie, then reads the book. And I am never surprised at the liberties Hollywood takes when telling their side of it. So many half truths were taken by them. The book is amazing and tells the whole story behind the Ia Drang campaign in 1965. Well worth the time to listen to it.
