Short, sweet, and to the point

After finishing Atomic Habits by James Clear a month or so earlier, I found Dopamine Detox to be a helpful reinforcement of some of the things I've learned. The short length of the book is inviting to those on the go. While I don't agree with some of his takes on certain things or the foundation of some of the practices (differences in beliefs), I found his articulation and argumentation clear and fruitful despite disagreements.
Perhaps my biggest takeaways were that I definitely need to do some sort of dopamine detox (he describes several approaches), and that I need to take care of priority tasks early in my day before dopamine levels are stimulated by other activities.

Atomic Habits is a helpful resource to anyone. I was given the recommendation and didn't initially see how it would help. I couldn't have been more wrong! The book proved to be a tremendous help. I've since recommended it to a number of people who also read it and found it to be greatly helpful.

A Cautionary Tale

I am not much of a fan of Saul Alinsky, nor am I a fan of the people he influenced on the Left. However, the book is deeply important for understanding political and cultural movements today. I must admit I have some admiration for Alisnky's clear vision and pragmatic execution. I will probably revisit the book again at some point.

While some critique may be leveled at Eric Metaxas for making Bonhoeffer out to be a conservative evangelical (which he wasn't, but was neo-orthodox), the recounting of his life is well done. One of the striking parts of the biography is how quickly, and with little effective resistance, the rise of Nazism came about.

I was assigned this book for an ethics class in seminary. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by how nuanced and thoughtful the material was handled. The narration was done quite well, too.
