My favorite Campion!
Revisado: 10-10-23
This is by far my favorite of all the Campion books. It’s fun and some say the plot is difficult but it’s true to how life is! It’s intricately woven and has GREAT characters. Don’t let so-so reviews sway you into skipping this one.

Historia
Jessica Fletcher has had plenty to worry about over her storied career, both as a best-selling novelist and as a part-time sleuth. But she's never had any reason to doubt her longtime publisher and trusted friend, Lane Barfield. When mounting evidence of financial malfeasance leads to an FBI investigation of Lane, Jessica can't believe what she's reading. So when it appears that Barfield has committed suicide, Jessica takes on the task of clearing his name. Sure enough, Jessica turns up several inconsistencies in the case against Barfield, as well as signs he might have been murdered.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 09-27-23
This book was so disappointing! The story was all over the place and the author was out-of-touch with characters' personalities. The last straw was when Jessica said "damn"! This is for sure a book to give a pass.

Historia
Mrs. Hawkins, the majestic narrator of A Far Cry from Kensington, takes us well in hand and leads us back to her threadbare years in postwar London. There, as a fat and much admired young war widow, she spent her days working for a mad, near-bankrupt publisher (“of very good books”) and her nights dispensing advice at her small South Kensington rooming house. At work and at home Mrs. Hawkins soon uncovered evil: shady literary doings and a deadly enemy; anonymous letters, blackmail, and suicide.

I kept waiting...
Revisado: 08-05-21
I thought the story was interesting enough to keep me listening, but I kept waiting for something to happen. It felt like it was building toward something. It wasn't. The story just ended. I felt like the author wasn't sure how to wrap it all up so she just stopped. I give it a "meh"

Excellent all around
Revisado: 11-20-17
I was nervous at first to read a Lord Peter story finished by someone other than DLS but it's really great! It has the same feel as the original stories so I was thrilled! The narration by Edward Petherbridge is relaxed and wonderful; he has an amazing voice!

What would you do if you discovered you were a witch? That's exactly what happens to private investigator Jill Gooder. And as if that wasn't enough, she has a serial killer to catch. More magic, mystery, and laughs than you can shake a stick at.

SO disappointed....
Revisado: 10-10-17
I was really hoping this would be a good series but I can barely make it through the first book. I think it's a great IDEA for a story but this author has made it extremely cookie cutter...it's all cliques about the single woman's life, 'I need chocolate; I need wine and pizza; I hate this guy but I really love him; I have an annoying sister' and the knitting-crazy assistant trying to give everyone a scarf gets old quick as well as Jill's biscuit-tin OCD thing.
The narrator I would give negative 3 stars if I could. All the men sound like they have major sinus infections except the sister... who sounds like a normal man. All the women Jill interviews speak so slowly they sound like they're heavily, heavily medicated. Big disappointment all around.
