Abrupt ending
Revisado: 10-04-24
The book had a lot of great set up and intrigue only to have a pretty clumsy and hasty revelation very near the end of the book. Plus, there were SO many loose threads that needed tying up (unless I missed something unbelievably subtle).

But, when Hoon hears that his friend and MI5 agent, Miles Crabtree, has gone missing in the United States, he is dragged back into action once more. The hunt leads him to the Florida Everglades, and into conflict with the violent locals, the terrifying wildlife, and a Sheriff with a sinister agenda of his own.

I love Angus King, but…
Revisado: 07-22-24
First off, there seems to be a lot of people that didn’t like this book and I have to disagree. It was Hoon was a misfit cast of sidekicks. This time they just happened to be American.
What I had a hard time with, and it pains me to say this, because I LOVE Angus King’s portrayal of Hoon and narration of all the other books, was the accents.
Mr. King, while an amazing voice actor for any UK accent, is HORRIBLE at “American” accents. It’s like he’s only comfortable with a campy southern accent. Thank goodness the “Brooklyn accent” only lasted for a few paragraphs! It was awful.
The bad accents were a bit of a distraction for most of the book.
However, as someone who recently “escaped” Florida, the caricature of the people may have been off, but JD Kirk NAILED the weather and climate to a T. Same with Vegas. Both places are a misery and I never empathized more with Bob Hoon than every description of heat and bugs causing a misery.
The ending was a bit abrupt. It felt like Kirk was having such a fun time with Bob in “The States” he forgot to check his word count and realized he needed to wrap things up.
Kind of like this review. #TCB

Omer’s Best Book Yet!
Revisado: 12-09-23
I’ve enjoyed all of Mike Omer’s books, but I felt like this one was the best so far. It seems like he might know a thing or two about growing up with a narcissistic parent, because he nailed that side story, which I thought played out well. I liked the sprinkling of pandemic life into the plot as well.
As for the main storyline, it was unlike anything I’ve read before and I did NOT see the ending coming, which very rarely happens.
Well paced to keep you interested with just enough action breaks to keep you in suspense!

I preferred Kristin Atherton’s narration
Revisado: 02-10-23
Another great Kate Marshall book, but Jan Kramer’s narration is just too precise for these characters and the accents felt over the top. Kristin Atherton, who did the previous Kate Marshall books, did a much better job of voicing different characters.

Great book, but it’s the first in the series, not the third
Revisado: 03-10-20
I really enjoyed this book, but it was slightly spoiled by the fact that, somehow, audible has this as the third book in the series, NOT the third, so I essentially knew the ending from the very beginning since the second book in the series talked about it.
I hope audible fixes this issue soon.

Historia
For Detective Sam Porter, the words "Father, forgive me" conjure memories long forgotten; a past intentionally buried. For Anson Bishop, these three words connect a childhood to the present as he unleashes a truth concealed for decades. Found written on cardboard near each body, these words link multiple victims to a single killer - discovered within minutes of each other in both Chicago and South Carolina - clearly connected yet separated by impossible miles.

Good book, Disappointing end to the series
Revisado: 09-02-19
First, let me say this book was still a really good read. It was filled with twists and turns and the narrator is great.
However, this just felt like a cruddy way to end the trilogy. The other two books were perfect thrillers that kept me guessing at every turn.
This one went a little too deep into the vengeance angle and some of the really interesting serial killer aspects fell by the wayside.
I’d still recommend this book to fans of the other 4MK books, but this is definitely not a stand alone book. I actually had to go back and do some refresher reading in the previous books before I could continue with this one.
