The narrator whispers and then shouts in what seem like never-ending increments of a few seconds each. I tried for more than 5 hours but finally gave up. I couldn’t hear much of the story bc the volume was too low but couldn’t increase the volume without damaging my ear drums during all the shouting. Just horrible!!

Even at 1.2X speed, the narrator was full monotone. Could have been so much better.

Once again Mr. Isaacson produces a biography which provides exceptional insight on the subject at hand. Listening will provide you with a clear understanding of why Einstien was able to develop insights that others were not. Amazingly, he never won the noble prize for his greatest accomplishments - the special and general theories of relatively. This bio provides much more beyond a clear understanding of Einstein's contributions. Einstein was extremely compassionate and made many lasting contributions to society that went beyond science. This is a worthwhile listen about an exceptional human being.

For sure, this is a really good story and well worth your time. But I have to say that it didn't quite live up to the sky high expectations that I had after reading all the glowing reviews. To everyone who rated this as their best listen of the year, I suggest "Dying to be Me" by Anita Moorjani, Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, and The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee (a Pulitzer Prize Winner). The first two in particular have much in common with "When Breath Becomes air", but in my opinion are clearly more compelling. All three are must read five star books if you really liked "When Breath Becomes air".

I love listening to accounts of amazing historical feats, and the WWII raid of Tokyo led by Jimmy Doolittle is right up there with some of the best of these stories. There is no way that any of the 80 airmen should have survived the raid (for one thing they didn't have nearly enough fuel for the mission) and yet 78 did. A story of courage, faith, and miracles that was critical to the victory over Japan. The accounts of what the Japanese did to the Chinese is also gripping though very troubling.

An interesting mix of astronaut stories and life lessons straight from the horse's mouth. The stories are not only interesting but highly credible given the amazing combination of talent, dedication, and humility of the author. I wouldn't put this in my top 20% of audiobooks, but I do recommend it as a worthwhile listen.

I loved Flat Out Love and highly recommended it to everyone I knew. Needless to say, I was excited to get started on the sequel. Maybe my expectations were too high, but the only positive surprise in the sequel is the introduction of another delightful new character. However, in every other regard the sequel falls way short of Flat Out Love. The Flat Out Love story was novel, creative, unpredictable, and compelling while Flat Out Celeste is none of the above. Julie only makes a brief appearance at the end, and Matt is devoid of any personality. The story is one dimensional and the story line predictable. I can't help but think that the author rushed to capitalize on the potential of a sequel and put almost no thought into the story and characters as a result. If you loved Flat Out Love, I think there's a good chance that you'll be disappointed with Flat Out Celeste.

Typical Reacher novel. Exceptionally well narrated as usual by Dick Hill, but the story and characters, though good, were nothing special. I think you can do better in this genre.

I love non-fiction adventure stories with some of my all-time favorites being Unbroken, The River of Doubt, The Boys in the Boat, Miracle in the Andes, Endurance, and In the Kingdom of Ice. So, I was really looking forward to this book. The story is compelling and the author does a fantastic job of tying together the discovery of the grand canyon, the development of hydro-electric power in the U.S., the environmental movement in the U.S., and the lifestyles of hard core river rats. All the ingredients seem to exist for this story to be as compelling as those named above, but it fell short for me. I can't really put my finder on the reason, but I really didn't care about any of the many many characters who play a part in the story. I just didn't feel invested because each faction appeared to take an extreme position with no respect for the other side. Unless you have a deep interest in the canyon, hydro-electric power, or whitewater rafting, I suggest that you'll get more entertainment from one of the stories listed above.
