Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Came highly recommended...but
Revisado: 03-26-25
This book was recommended by several people, The first half was intriguing and absorbing, but the ending was disappointing. I was expecting horror and to be too scared to finish, this is not that. To me, the second half was confusing and it ended with too many unanswered questions. I found myself rewinding a lot and thinking I must have missed something.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

I loved this book!
Revisado: 10-02-19
I loved this book! I loved the narrator! The book is narrated with an air of joy and wonderment, and you can feel the narrator smiling as she speaks. I did not realize that the author is the narrator until I finished the book. But it makes perfect sense because the narrator/author seemed so intimate in the octopus adventures. Before this book, I could say I was octopus ignorant... I knew nothing about octopuses! Now, I can at least say, that they are very intelligent and have distinctive personalities, and can form a bond with a human.... always said animals are wonderful... some are more wonderous than others!
This was fun and touching and would make for a good listen for children.

Pineapple, pineapple, pineapple!
Revisado: 05-03-19
I loved this book. I was sad when it ended, so I started it over! I totally fell in love with all the characters... from Howard to Aunt Bertha and Uncle Gus, to the good-hearted Odoms! It is a wonderfully sweet story, and I am so glad I purchased it!
The narrator, Suzy Jackson was amazing. I will be incorporating the sayings, "heeeey, butterbean" and "pineapple!" into my own life!

Thought provoking
Revisado: 12-27-17
What made the experience of listening to Gray the most enjoyable?
The story kept me engaged. I kept wondering what was going to happen next
What other book might you compare Gray to and why?
Post apocalyptic stories generally depress me and I tend to avoid them, but for some reason this one seemed interesting. This has the same feeling as "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy but colder. At first it seems it is a struggle for survival with man vs nature, but it soon becomes man vs man. There wasn't anything really surprising, but it is still a great listen.
Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to this narrator before, but I did enjoy her voice. I especially liked the "male" voice of the character, Benjamin. Lauren Fortgang sounds remarkably similar to Ellen Archer the narrator of The Chemist by Stephenie Meyers
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did want to listen to this book continuously!
Any additional comments?
This book woke the "closet survivalist" in me! I definitely need to check those emergency supplies!
