What a disappointment
Revisado: 09-27-24
I have read all of Greg Isles books and loved them. Really looking forward to this one, to be entertained and take a break from politics. I was quickly sickened that another great artist had succumbed to pushing their political bias down their fans throats. Why can’t they just do what they do best? In this case, tell a great tale.. Too bad, I love listening to Scott Brick.
If you are suffering from TDS, you’re going to love it.

Compelling despite the lack of surprises
Revisado: 04-06-24
Jody’s telling of the SNC events held no real surprises. I, like most Canadians who know the difference between right and wrong was proud of her first standing up for what was right and if Jane for travelling the road with her. However, so ends my agreement with Jody’s beliefs. Jody, despite her education, is naive. She believes that by having our courts hand out sentences based on your race (basically in itself, racism), a perverted and bandaid solution at best, will somehow solve the ills that led to the crimes being committed by the groups most often encountered in our courts. Ridiculous.
Then there’s her blind believe in man made climate change, spouting off the dire predictions of the UN, the source of the scam, as if it were the word of God, like so many others indoctrinated into this mass psychosis.i wonder if it has even occurred to her to find well known real expert scientists in the area of climate, who have spent their lives studying it, opinions. I guess reason will come as the dates of dire predictions keep getting readjusted, Jody and the rest of the climate bedwetters will realize that they are the carbon that the climate jet setters wish to reduce.

Historia
Harley Altmyer should be in college drinking Rolling Rock and chasing girls. He should be freed from his closed-minded, stricken coal town, with its lack of jobs and no sense of humor. Instead, he's constantly reminded of just how messed up his life is. With his mother in jail for killing his abusive father, Harley is an orphan with the responsibilities of an adult and the fiery, aggressive libido of a teenager.

Wow, I listened to this entire book over the weekend. It was a great surprise when it grabbed me from the very start and held me for the entire surprising trip through the story. I’ve used a credit on so many that didn’t match up to this one, which I got to enjoy for free from the plus catalog. Have a listen. You won’t regret it,!

Revisado: 04-04-22
Wow. What a great historical saga about Australia. This book kept me listening the day I started it well into the night, and furnished it the next day. I rate a book on whether it keeps me listening or if I have to push myself to get back to it. Others said they had a hard time following the story, but I didn’t find that at all.

Historia
The Corporations - the wielders of power in a society not long from now - brought about the end of civilization as we know it, nuking each other to the point where it collapsed. Ishmael doesn’t know any of this, though; in fact, he doesn’t know anything about himself when he wakes up in this shattered world. All of his autobiographical and episodic memories are gone, and along with them, any knowledge of who he was or anything in his past. Worse, he has made enemies of some very important people, and they are after him.

“This fallen world” overkill
Revisado: 08-17-21
I have enjoyed the first couple of books of this series. The story is quite good with some great characters, but the author repeats the phrase “in this fallen world” so often it becomes nauseating. Joe Barrett is such a great narrated for the books, so I stayed past the first book, but by the end of the second I’m not sure I can continue. That phrase used in a dramatic sentence throughout each chapter is just ruining if for me. See what you think.

Maybe it should be called a romance novel...
Revisado: 09-28-19
The book started out great with lots of adventure and intrigue but as it rolled along it turned more into formula Christian romance with a side mystery. A bit of a disappointment I’m afraid. Not much for romance novels. On that turn the story gradually and inevitably, fizzled out.

Cheesy
Revisado: 08-25-19
Wow. I had this writer recommended to me as similar to Mark Greaney after finishing The Gray Man series. Not even close! So preachy and pathetically cheesy I got too the last 3 hours and just couldn’t take it anymore. I could pretty much predict much of his writing. Very difficult to get into the characters because they were all so predictable as well. How is this writer so popular? Is this book just a one off? Glad I got it on sale and didn’t waste a credit on it!

I have always meant to read this book. So glad I went for the audible version. Really good. Simon Vance is excellent as always. Dickens tells such a great story.

Surprisingly unique adventure
Revisado: 12-12-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this to a friend because it was a fun read. The characters were well developed (with one exception) and the story was unique. The action moved along well without being my being able to predict what was going to happen next.. The one thing I didn’t like was the author having Andy state he has Asperger’s but not behaving in any real way like an Aspie. I know, I have a son with Asperger’s. Picking up on subtle messages in someone’s speech or facial expression is something he did all through the story, but the inability to do this is a core feature of Asperger’s. That was a major blunder. But if you disregard this, the characters were all great.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I rarely pick a favorite character because they all contribute to the story.
Have you listened to any of Matt Addis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don’t think I’ve heard Matt Addis before, but considering the number of audiobooks I’ve heard, it’s unlikely. He did a great job. The narrator can make or break an audiobook and he definitely made it.
Any additional comments?
I loved Luke’s comments at the end of the book asking for reviews. It was effective and the proof is the fact I wrote one right after hearing it. I love to hear someone make a request with a sense of humour, so it was perfect!
