Historia
The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

Surprising insight - look at your life from a different viewpoint
Revisado: 11-23-17
Am listening to this again to reinforce it. Negativity is part of life - we shouldn’t avoid it. We should embrace and learn from it. Brilliant in my opinion and different from anything I’ve heard in a long time. Worth every second it took to listen to it!

A long listen but full of interesting history
Revisado: 03-04-13
Where does Gandhi & Churchill rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I enjoy history so this book was for me. But it does have a lot of detail and seems to come from a British point of view. But overall worth the price of admission if you enjoy history.

Historia
Love added to anger produces work and a maturing of the human spirit. This is the message of "The Quarry," one of the more philosophical and secular poems from the Polish poet Karol Wojtyla, also known by the name Pope John Paul II. The observer analyzes the materials and technology, inspiration and satisfaction, and transformation of the stonecutters performing their work, as well as the danger in what they do. With a short introduction.

Would you listen to The Quarry again? Why?
I would probably have to read it multiple times to gain a full understanding. But I liked it because I had no idea Pope John Paul II had written any poems!

Historia
In a reporting tour de force, award-winning journalist Steven Brill takes an uncompromising look at the adults who are fighting over America’s failure to educate its children and points the way to reversing that failure. Brill not only takes us inside their roller-coaster battles, he also concludes with a surprising prescription for what it will take from both sides to put the American dream back in America’s schools.

Informative & Detailed - Worth the Time to Listen
Revisado: 12-06-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the issues facing our public schools.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Class Warfare?
I did not realize the effect Race to the Top was having on changing our public schools. I also did not realize how Democrats have been working to address the issues with public schools.
Which character – as performed by L. J. Ganser – was your favorite?
Joe Klein - Chancellor of NYC Schools
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I believe when all the smoke clears the deciding factor in education is our Teachers. There is a lot of smoke to clear out of the way - unions, contracts, laws, etc. but the core way to make a change is to get the best teacher possible in front of our students and let them teach. I hope we can do this within our existing framework of public schools.

Historia
Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years - a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung and the unchallenged rise to power of his son, Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape never before seen, Demick brings to life what it means to be an average Korean citizen, living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today.

Truly Amazing Insight
Revisado: 08-21-11
I am amazed by the amount of suffering North Koreans have endured for so long. The resilience of mankind is equally amazing. The author brought me down to personal level of understanding by following people and not listing facts or reporting on occurrences. I could not recommend the book highly enough. Well worth the time and cost!
