Historia
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

Historia
The American political scene today is poisonously divided, and the vast majority of white evangelicals plays a strikingly unified, powerful role in the disunion. These evangelicals raise a starkly consequential question for electoral politics: Why do they claim morality while supporting politicians who act immorally by most Christian measures? In this clear-eyed, hard-hitting chronicle of American religion and politics, Anthea Butler answers that racism is at the core of conservative evangelical activism and power.

A must read to understand US Politics
Revisado: 02-11-23
Dr. Anthea Butler’s historical and social account of the long-standing relationship between Evangelism and Politics is laid bare. This real and raw book strips the varnish off the glossy history that has been normalized by American culture writ large. I resonated with many vignettes in the book as I was raised as a Black Evangelical (Pentecostal) and can easily traced the internalized white supremacy, patriarchy, homophobia, misogyny, xenophobia and cruelty that is expected of a “good” Christian Black boy. A must read!!!

A MUST READ 🔥
Revisado: 01-31-23
Kate Aronoff delivers a blistering roadmap to the dire situation our respective counties and collective planet is in. Driven by industries and ideologies that we’ve been conditioned to accept as not only as helpful but necessary—when there was plenty of evidence to the contrary. She lays out in myriad ways that the exploitation of the planet is directly connected to the exploitation of humans and that should definitely make us all: Over-Heated! 🤬

Historia
A powerful account of violence against Black women and girls in the United States and their fight for liberation, America, Goddam explores the combined force of anti-Blackness, misogyny, patriarchy, and capitalism in the lives of Black women and girls in the United States today. Through personal accounts and hard-hitting analysis, Black feminist historian Treva B. Lindsey starkly assesses the forms and legacies of violence against Black women and girls, as well as their demands for justice for themselves and their communities.

A MUST READ
Revisado: 11-29-22
I had listened to an episode of the Mary Trump show in which she had David on as a guest. This roughly hour long conversation gave me chills, as well as intrigued me to learn WHY the GOP was doing this currently. I must say that Mr. Corn lays out a tick by tick rundown of the dueling forces within side of the conservative movement comprised of predominantly two types of white males (some being wealthy privileged men and scrappy poor white men) and the symbiotic relationship that was the fuel that caused divides and violence to reassert their power. Please read this book if you are interested in being able to clearly discern how we are being pulled into authoritarianism as a country. Great read!!!
