Scarred is a well-told story of life in an aggressive cult. These gurus think they have total control over their followers. But their disciples might finally see through them and go on to fix the guru's wagon for him. Sarah Edmondson takes us along with her in a wild journey that shows us what it takes to get the courage to do something meaningful in a desperate situation. Read by the author.

The Cult of Trump, by Steve Hassan, Ph.D., offers an abundance of information on how Trump leads his followers like they are in a cult. Hassan has a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Ph.D. in in Organizational Development. In this book he lays out a solid case based on his education and decades of experience studying cults. He has written books about cults, and has helped many people leave their cults.
Hate to give away the ending, but Hassan predicts that if Trump loses the 2020 election, he would convince his followers it was rigged. As we approach the first anniversary of January 6, this gives me chills. I suppose anyone paying attention would have thought it could happen. But along with the dangers, Hassan offers solutions - things we can lobby for with the mainstream media, social media, and how families can relate to their Cult Trump relatives, and feel hope they'll wake up and get out.
Read this book if you are confused over why people follow Trump, a man with a sour personality, who is narcissistic, and never does anything for anybody but himself. You will get the information you're looking for.

I pre-ordered A Promised Land because I hoped it would help me tolerate the lies and abuse in our politics these days. It turned out to be twenty-nine hours of valuable therapy.

President Barack Obama delivers a compelling and easy to understand history of every situation he describes. For example, in the last chapter he tells the story of killing Osama bin Laden. But the chapters leading up to it offer an insightful history into conflict in the Middle East.

Every event he narrates includes his reasoning, the steps he took, and his insights on why he made the decisions he did. His narrative fills in the blanks reporters either glossed over or missed. Further, he critiques himself and discloses any fears he felt, and names the things he could have done better.

President Obama writes like an angel, weaving in details to make you feel like you are there with him as events unfold. If you liked Barack Obama as president, you will love this book. It's calming, edifying, and enlightening.

Reading the hardcover or paperback would be great, but listening to Barack Obama read the book to you is an honor. Although long, I couldn't put it down. Although long, I look forward to the next installment. I believe future generations will treasure this book and future editions as a cornerstone of American history, and an accurate portrait of our forty-fourth president, Barack Obama.

If you want a book that sanitizes the American extermination of Native Americans during Westward expansion, this is a great book for you.
If you want to know what the "California Compromise" is, this is the book for you. Hint: it's actually called the Missouri Compromise of 1820. California came in as a free territory.
However, if you want a more accurate history, I recommend The Mexican-American War, by Jeffrey Rogers Hummel, narrated by George C. Scott. It's available for free on Audible, and includes actual facts and quotations from the times. If you have been brainwashed by Christopher Collier books, or other "softened" American histories, read A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn, also available on Audible. Zinn will fill in the other side of the story Collier glosses over.
The only reason to read this book is to learn how some historians distort history. It gave me bad dreams.

Trump vs. FBI

This book focuses exclusively on Trump's battle against the FBI. It reviews the election, interactions with Russia, etc., but the focus stays squarely on the Trump vs. FBI saga throughout. Reading it makes you nervous - we have a president who hates the law and law enforcement. We watch it happen on TV in real life, and now the saga up to date of publication is committed to print, and to history, in this book. The story is still unfolding as the book came out a week ago.
While our overall situation is deeply disturbing, it's comforting to find all this information in one book. It restores your faith in truth to have Pulitzer prize winning journalists like James B. Stewart to document these surreal times. Well worth the read.

This is an amazing recording - and made it easier for me to get through the whole thing. I tried reading the PDF, but could only get about a hundred pages into it before putting it aside. However, I spent the weekend with this excellent recording and am finishing it up this morning (Monday). After eating it all up in one delicious bite - here's my synopsis.
Part I - lays down blow-by-blow what happened with the Russians in the election. Sheesh, who knows that many rich Russians? However, Mueller says there was not enough conclusive evidence to prove Trump's involvement.
Part II - lays out Trump's blow-by-blow and tweet-by-tweet obstruction. Mueller divides it up by people and by issues, so for example, there's a long section about Trump's praise, pardon-dangling, slandering Michael Cohen, and his family. There are similar sections and analysis for his interactions with Paul Manafort, and each of the other characters and situations he tried to influence.
Conclusion: as Americans, we have a duty to educate ourselves on what's in the Mueller Report. This is a historic document. I recommend downloading and eat it as soon as you have a chance.

We all learn something new every day and this book has good information. I picked up a few things I didn't already know that will improve the way I chit-chat with people. I'm a talker - if you're a talker too, you will get good information from reading (listening to) this book (as I "read" it on Audible). Like most audio books, the voice actor has a particular sharpness in her voice, which I find annoying, but I suppose it's popular because they all do it. I prefer a book read by the author, but that's just me. Also, keep in mind, the book is mostly for business success - networking, dealing with associates, etc. I've worked from home for decades, and have cultivated relationships as devotedly as anybody. However, my style includes more forgiveness and self-forgiveness than the book's author recommends. There are two philosophies of business relationships - both are based on professional behavior. In the first paradigm, relationships are like a fine China plate - once you broke it, you can never fix it. I believe if you commit a bad faux pas - you can fix it through forgiveness and amends. The author tells the story of how she once broke somebody's vase and replaced it with a new vase full of flowers. That's how we can look at all our relationships. If we break someone's metaphorical vase, there's got to be a way to make it up. However, like the author points out, we don't need problematic people in our lives, so it's okay to clean house when needed.

Picking your nose can spread germs, causing infections and acne. You can give yourself headaches by pushing mucus into your sinuses, or from damaging the tissue inside your nose. If you pick your nose bad enough, you can damage your septum, which can lead to paralysis of your nose and lip. If this sounds like you, buy this recording and listen daily until you are confident you have quit for good. I've been tried to quit this nasty habit for about a year, and finally quit. Thank you Subliminal Guru. I listened to the subliminal messages about fifty times until I embodied it at a deep subconscious level. The final step that helped me quit was to put a piece of tape on my nail to make me aware of when my finger or thumb tried to go in my nose. Listening to this subliminal recording is the first step to freedom from nose picking. Buy it and listen to it repeatedly until you quit!

takes you through the Parkland shooting

This well written account makes you feel like you were there for the Parkland shooting, Valentine's Day this year. The story is told from two points of view - brother and sister David and Lauren Hogg. Lauren explains how she felt realizing she lost several close friends. David explains how she cried hysterically for three days and he was at a loss to do anything to help her.

David's experience was completely different. For most of the event he was under the impression it was a drill. When things started to turn, he had the foresight to take out his phone and start recording.

The siblings' accounts give us a glimpse into the minds of today's Millennial generation.

The last few chapters are David Hogg's narration of the aftermath, including how he interacted with the media, the NRA, and other forces of the culture war. He also outlines his plan and determination to make this a better world for his generation. We can all help by learning more about our younger generation and their experience of today's America. The majority of Americans want to do something about the gun problem; only a small percentage of Americans have high-powered guns and arsenals of guns in their basements. Yet they are winning.

I recommend the Audible version. The authors did an excellent job reading their book aloud, and it has more impact hearing their strong voices.

Best short Audible on Zen I’ve found so far

Dear Audible reader friends - if you’ve looked around the low price range for books on Zen as much as I have, you’ve probably found a few gems. This is one. I absolutely love it that this author is so honest and embarked on a big project like rewriting his graduate papers. It makes me want to do that too. The book explains how to treat depression using Zen and Buddhist principles. Evaldi mixes in esoteric principles from Shamballa Warrior Training and from positive thinking authors like Wayne Dyer. I encourage you to listen to this. It’s short and to the point. I just went through it a second time - and decided it was time to get the word out about this excellent recording.
