Historia
In Aspen, Colorado, in 1941, Rachel Brewster is a slalom skier at the National Downhill and Slalom Championships. Little Ray, as she is called, finishes nowhere near the podium, but she manages to get pregnant. Back home, in New England, Little Ray becomes a ski instructor. Her son, Adam, grows up in a family that defies conventions and evades questions concerning the eventful past. Years later, looking for answers, he will go to Aspen. In the Hotel Jerome, where he was conceived, Adam will meet some ghosts; in The Last Chairlift, they aren’t the first or last ghosts he sees.

Why doesn’t Audible promote John Irving?

JG People! Beautiful JI !
Revisado: 08-15-23
Love. John Irving has always written about Love. He writes about it in all its forms. Familial, romantic, platonic, passing, lifetime.
I began reading JI when I was on the cusp of 15 in 1981: “The Hotel New Hampshire” Still my favorite book ever! (Mark Helprin’s “A Soldier of the Great War at #2) In THNH Mr. Irving wrote about my family, it felt that way, stunning!
I am a voracious reader for life. Obviously some of the readers and commenters or listeners of “The Last Chairlift” are not going the extra mile!! They would prefer not to Jesus God! Lol!
I chose to listen to this book on Audible. My first for a JI book! I waited 9 months to listen. I needed a gift to get me through my numerous flights and hospital and hospice visits watching my sister die. My long confused drives in the mountains. My screaming in empty parking lots. Thank for this gift Mr. Irving. You have saved my life so many times with love and laughter and tears.
I have lived and taken part in some of the historic events written about in this book in my almost 60 years, get used to it!
“Love is love Honey” my incredible Ma told me many times, love is love.
Thank you Mr. Irving for your gift! Peace and love to you and your family always! Ciao.
Gorgeous Narration!
Got my head around the screenplay form and fell into that groove! Neat!

The Latecomer follows the story of the wealthy, New York City-based Oppenheimer family, from the first meeting of parents Salo and Johanna, under tragic circumstances, to their triplets born during the early days of IVF. As children, the three siblings—Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally—feel no strong familial bond and cannot wait to go their separate ways, even as their father becomes more distanced and their mother more desperate. When the triplets leave for college, Johanna, faced with being truly alone, makes the decision to have a fourth child.

Sort of at a loss for words. I had no full idea what I was getting into! It made me tear up, cringe, sigh of relief, and then do it all over again. Lovely and devastating. Narration impeccable! Thank you for this! Now to fix my family ;).

Historia
Maurice Swift is handsome, charming, and hungry for fame. The one thing he doesn’t have is talent - but he’s not about to let a detail like that stand in his way. After all, a would-be writer can find stories anywhere. They don’t need to be his own. Working as a waiter in a West Berlin hotel in 1988, Maurice engineers the perfect opportunity: a chance encounter with celebrated novelist Erich Ackermann. He quickly ingratiates himself with the powerful - but desperately lonely - older man, teasing out of Erich a terrible, long-held secret about his activities during the war.

Revisado: 06-21-22
Okay. Another great book by John Boyne!!I Love Audible for 2 plus hour drive time each day. This story had me yelling at the “radio”, WTH is happening?!?! I am a big reader, but I need the soothing qualities of being read to as well. Narrators, perfection! John Boyne is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. I realize I am late to the party. Thanks again :).

Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Historia
Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.
