Historia
When I got jilted by my unfaithful fiancé a week before the wedding, my plans involved nothing more than ice cream, a blanket fort, and a bonfire of his possessions. But my friends convince me that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, so I embark on the Parisian honeymoon by myself. However, the City of Light isn’t remotely charming or romantic when you’re alone at a table for two, so all I want to do is go home again. Then I meet Lucas Fournier.

A YA Story Trying Too Hard To Be An Adult
Revisado: 06-30-23
I listened to Harlow's Next Generation series and enjoyed that, so I thought I'd check out the earlier stories. The preview sounded good, especially since I spent a year in France in my 20's and wanted some Parisian nostalgia, but this missed the mark on so many levels.
From what I read of the author, she started her career as a YA author and this was her first foray into the adult romance arena - and you could tell! The two main characters of Frenched seemed like they were still teens, trying to play like adults. The dialogue was predictable, the character interaction not very deep, and the spicey scenes seemed like they were just dropped in so this would get an R rating.
And the terrible narrator just added to the struggle. Again, it seemed like she was trying too hard to be an adult, but never really got there. In addition, the audio quality seemed very poor; almost muffled and it made the words difficult to understand sometimes. This was probably the worst-quality audible book I have listened to since I started listening 10+ years ago.
I will say Harlow's writing does get better with time (ah, don't we all), but if I'd read this one first, I probably wouldn't have sought out any other of her novels.

Leave her as the unidentified redhead...

I really liked Alice Clayton's Hudson Valley series, but I can barely get to the end this one. First off, how could this have been produced without a British accent voice for Jack? It creates a huge hole in the story since there's not much change in the different characters, male or female.
And, I'm having a hard time visualizing this beautiful 24-year-old stunning actor going for a clumsy 30-something woman without her sh$t together. And there is no way they would have waited weeks to do the deed to "make it special" - get on with it already!
Save your credit on this one ladies!

The voiceover killed the Roman Crazy
Revisado: 06-29-17
I wanted to like this book - I really liked Alice Clayton's Hudson Valley series and I had a European adventure of my own once... But I couldn't get past the reading voice! The characters were suppose to be in their early 30s, but the voice and much of the dialogue made it sound like they were in the 50s. The Italian accent was ok, but it didn't portray the character beyond a cliché of a horny little man in a trench coat.
The other glaring issue was the story didn't have many peaks - nothing that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting them to stay together until the bitter end. The most exciting thing happens in the first few chapters and the rest is a waste to get to the "happy ending" we all know is going to happen.

Jacqueline Jordan knows conflict. A fearless journalist, she’s spent the past decade embedded in the world’s hot spots, writing about the fall of nations and the rise of despots. Had potential, but WAY too much back story!
Revisado: 03-30-16
Any additional comments?
This had great potential to be a gritty mystery, but the author spent 90% of the book telling the back story of the characters. And I struggled at the beginning to establish the characters because they were called different names - this might have just been a challenge of an audio book vs. paper, but it took away from the story.
I usually like Jen Lancaster's books because she sets them in the Gen X era: high school/college in the 90s, 20's in the 2000s and adulthood in recent history; I can relate to the characters and what they are/were thinking. This one just didn't hit the mark for me with the chosen format.

OK story, HATED the narration voice.
Revisado: 06-22-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story was ok, but I thought it was drawn out way too long.
What didn’t you like about Dick Hill’s performance?
I really hated the narrator of this book. Most of the characters were female and he didn't do a very good job at making them sounds any different. His voice was breathy and sounded like he needed a glass of water after smoking a pack of cigarettes. Yuck!
