Historia
Starting Strength has been called the best and most useful of fitness books. The updated third edition expands and improves on the previous teaching methods and biomechanical analysis. No other book on barbell training ever written provides the detailed instruction on every aspect of the basic barbell exercises. Many people all over the world have used the simple biological principle of stress/recovery/adaptation on which this method is based to improve their performance, their appearance, and their long-term health.

Euclid of barbell training
Revisado: 01-11-20
This here is a classic. The paperback is a must, but you should also listen to this Audible version and not just once. The author narrates and his voice commands a deep understanding of this subject because he has been in the trenches of gym coaching since the seventies. I highly recommend his other books as well.

Historia
Mark Rippetoe has been in the fitness industry since 1978 and has owned a black-iron gym since 1984. He knows things about lifting weights and training for performance that most other coaches and professionals have never had the chance to learn. This book of essays offers a glimpse into the depths of experience made possible through many years under the bar, and many more years spent helping others under the bar.

But fortunately I’m now a convert and frequent his book Starting Strength in my salty garage gym as I’m resting between sets. He’s a teacher and a talker, but he keeps it a little bit humorous with occasional space alien 👽 jokes. Got to roll my eyes on his politics, but fortunately he doesn’t go there in this narrative of his years of using the barbell to train the human body to a stronger adaptation.

Historia
Founded by Alexander the Great and built by self-styled Greek pharaohs, the city of Alexandria at its height dwarfed both Athens and Rome. It was the marvel of its age, legendary for its vast palaces, safe harbors, and magnificent lighthouse. But it was most famous for the astonishing intellectual efflorescence it fostered and the library it produced. If the European Renaissance was the "rebirth" of Western culture, then Alexandria, Egypt, was its birthplace.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

I am a nonfiction aficionado, but I do enjoy space Sci-Fi only if it's plausible. The voice acting and sound effects really do capture moments and drive the story along in an enjoyable yet thrilling tale. I will listen to again immediately.

Historia
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, whether climbing the highest volcanoes in the world or racing through anthrax-infested Siberia. He came up with a radical vision of nature, that it was a complex and interconnected global force and did not exist for man's use alone. Ironically, his ideas have become so accepted and widespread that he has been nearly forgotten.

In 1929, Edwin Hubble announced the greatest discovery in the history of astronomy since Galileo first turned a telescope to the heavens. The galaxies, previously believed to float serenely in the void, are in fact hurtling apart at an incredible speed: the universe is expanding. This stunning discovery was the culmination of a decades-long arc of scientific and technical advancement.

Telescopes, cameras and Spectographs
Revisado: 08-17-15
What made the experience of listening to Starlight Detectives the most enjoyable?
I found the history of the characters behind the evolution of the telescope and the camera the most interesting. Although the story behind the spectrograph was surprisingly well told. The reader is perfect.
What other book might you compare Starlight Detectives to and why?
Longitude
Which scene was your favorite?
Louis Daguerre and the invention of the camera. The history behind the modern and old observatories.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Buzz kill
Revisado: 06-28-13
What disappointed you about What Einstein Told His Cook?
I was expecting more relativity or physics based food science rather than a science professor's chemically towing the standard FDA line.
What could Robert L. Wolke have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It is a bit Newtonian or Cartesian and I would prefer more systematic sciences of how it relates to the environment and ecology, not to mention different cultures.
Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He is fine

Historia
It was a pretty radical idea - a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV's programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ghost Wave to be better than the print version?
Yes! Hearing it in the authors voice and tone really add to the experience!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Ghost Wave?
I enjoyed the maritime history of the bank, but the whole story is compelling and builds to a satisfying end.
