Very very very….very long for what happens
Revisado: 04-10-25
The story was realistic/relatable but long/slow and I wasn’t thrilled with the ending after the long/slow read. I don’t plan to try another from this author.

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Very mixed on this one
Revisado: 03-06-25
I liked that the “unspeakable things” were subtle vs overt, but the story was on the slow side and very little happened overall; when the action came, it was glossed over in about 5 minutes. Not her best for sure.

Disappointing and hated the ending
Revisado: 03-01-25
I was looking forward to seeing how the last book’s ending conflict was resolved. I enjoyed a few parts of this storyline but most were boring and the last few chapters were grizzly and disappointing, making me not wonder what’s next.

Historia
Half a century ago, an aberration was spotted by one of our earliest satellites, and summarily dismissed as a hardware malfunction. But it was no aberration. And no malfunction. It was an accidental glimpse of something extraordinary, and very old. Mocked for decades, the man who designed the satellite is now dead. With the system's original data firmly in the hands of former NTSB investigator Joe Rickards and anthropologist Angela Reed.

Revisado: 07-17-24
If this was my 1st K.L. Slater book, I would never listen to or read another. Other than about 1.5 chapters it was boring and hard to stay engaged.

Narrator made it hard to listen/finish
Revisado: 12-25-23
The story was quite good but the narrator was “flat” with any intonations in the wrong places and some awful voices; it was painful to listen to and I couldn’t wait for the book to end so I could stop hearing the narrator.

Enjoyed the story but painful narration
Revisado: 04-02-23
I felt like the narrator was reading the book to a group of kindergartners rather than performing the characters. I almost stopped listening due to this, but I did enjoy the storyline.
