Disturbing Family Violence
Revisado: 12-23-24
It’s well written and Julia Whelan is my favorite voice actor, but I would not have purchased the book if I knew the primary storyline was about another drunken, delusional, violent man who terrorizes his family. I’ve read enough of those and I wish books would have a warning on them because reading details of women and children being harmed is disturbing. Mothers who stay with these men…also disturbing.

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Fun and lighthearted. Write more please!
I’m having trouble finding books to listen to. So many book are formulaic, or violent and disturbing with women and children being abused, or morose and depressing, or mind bending weirdness, or predictable drivel.
This book is just Seth telling a bunch of random stories and was really enjoyable. Made me laugh.

Historia
The victim of a painful past and a fatherless childhood, Dinah is searching for love that will last—or at least—a reasonable facsimile that comes with a warranty. Two years after the breakup of her marriage to the award-winning playwright, Dinah remains in limbo, not genuinely wanting him back but lacking a satisfying stand-in. She finds it hard to relinquish the "pink" girlish fantasy that a man will secure her happily ever after. When she fights to hold on to that now-extinct romance, Dinah finds herself in a variety of wild predicaments.

The victim of a painful past and a fatherless childhood, Dinah Kaufman is searching for love that will last - or at least, a reasonable facsimile that comes with a warranty. She nearly found it in her marriage to hugely successful playwright Rudy Gendler. Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

The best memoir I have read
Revisado: 02-09-23
I'm sad that the book ended. This was engrossing, funny, suspenseful, insightful and really touching. If the prince thing doesn't work out, you could have a most successful career as an audio book narrator. Flawless performance, truly! I don't care what you may think of the monarchy, you will have to agree that the fish bowl they are forced to live in is absolute insanity. As he says near the end of his book, he has had to live in a version of the Truman Show his whole life. I hope they are able to carve out some normal life in the US that will keep them safe and allow them to break free of the media. I hope everyone who reads this book will tell 10 people to never click on the online "news" about the royal family. It perpetuate the obsessive coverage of them and the dangerous hounding by photographers who stalk them endlessly. Knowing that a photo of the couple with their newborn would fetch 100,000 pounds makes me ill. Best wishes Harry and Meghan. You deserve some peace!

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

The title caught my interest, not sure it's true
Revisado: 09-08-22
Jennette McCurdy is a talented writer. This must have been very difficult for her to put on paper, but she is articulate, funny and insightful. As I read the book, it reminds me of other disturbing family stories I have heard over the years. I have to wonder why other adults in households let mentally and emotionally disturbed individuals hold entire households hostage with their tirades and manipulative, and often abusive, behavior. It happens in so many families. Jennette had three other adults in her home. Could not one of them protect the children from this crazy woman? I’m sure this book was triggering for many. There is always stuff between mothers and daughters, but Jennette’s mom was completely off the rails. Her toxic and bizarre behavior terrorized her family. She instilled fear and self-loathing in her daughter and, most disturbingly, labeled it as “love.”
A few downsides of this audio book. First, she should have opted to have an experienced voice talent record the book. She comes off as a reluctant 8th grader rushing through a dreaded book report presentation. Also, I agree with others that the book would have been just fine without the salacious and cringy details of her sex life. As with the crass title of the book (and tasteless, inane photo of her smiling while holding an urn), I suspect the publishing gurus pushed for the additions to gain media attention. No doubt it worked. Overall, I recommend this book and hope it is read by all parents of celebrity children. Good luck Jennette McCurdy.

Historia
Back when restaurant menus were still printed on paper, and wearing a mask—or not—was a decision made mostly on Halloween, David Sedaris spent his time doing normal things. As Happy-Go-Lucky opens, he is learning to shoot guns with his sister, visiting muddy flea markets in Serbia, buying gummy worms to feed to ants, and telling his nonagenarian father wheelchair jokes. But then the pandemic hits, and like so many others, he’s stuck in lockdown, unable to tour and read for audiences, the part of his work he loves most.

So well written and captivating. The chapter on Osama Bin Laden is riveting. Just makes me so angry that his whole presidency was an uphill battle with baseless and pointless animosity from the right. Cheers to you sir. Thank you for your service to our country!

Could have been actually good.
Revisado: 10-25-21
Story starts off strong, good build up, intriguing plot. But then it seem like the author had to meet her deadline and just wrapped it up quickly. Didn't even really make sense in some parts. Thrown together like a hour TV drama. Laura Dave does have writing talent but needs a do over on this work. I do not recommend it.
