Historia
Flavia de Luce has taken on the mentorship of her odious moon-faced cousin Undine, who has come to live at Buckshaw following the death of her mother. Undine’s main talent, aside from cultivating disgusting habits, seems to be raising Flavia’s hackles, although in her best moments she shows potential for trespassing, trickery, and other assorted mayhem. When Major Greyleigh, a local recluse and former hangman, is found dead after a breakfast of poisonous mushrooms, suspicion falls on the de Luce family’s longtime cook, Mrs. Mullet.

Flavia as always.
Revisado: 09-24-24
This whole secret cabal with FlaviaS parents is a bit like science fiction. What I’ve always liked about her was how down to earth she is.

Historia
It’s the sixties. Everything’s groovy. Teenagers bask in the freedom of a country transformed. Counterculture is on the rise, and the times, they-are-a-changing. Everything, that is, except the author’s young life. She doesn’t swoon for the Beatles or scream for the Stones. She doesn’t protest the Vietnam War or fight for women’s rights. Instead, from age seven to sixteen, she accompanies her father to a dilapidated barn on the edge of a dusty little town located on the outskirts of San Francisco, where she works after school building a ship that is supposed to set her free.

A lovely insight into the meaning of family. Along with a travelogue of a coastal journey by yacht and the ups and downs thereof.

Don’t waste your time.
Revisado: 07-15-23
Perhaps there are readers interested in these wildly implausible horror tales. Not I. The reader overdramatized but perhaps that is customary with the genre. The characters are like paper cutouts or cartoons. I’m sorry I wasn’t warned as to the classification as horror—fooled by hopes of a who dunnit in early Hollywood.

Wonderful book and presentation. Except for the inaccurate pronunciation of Russian words. Considering the subject some care in this was called for. Most annoying every time it was repeated.
