Phryne Fisher is doing one of her favorite things -dancing at the Green Mill (Melbourne's premier dance hall) to the music of Tintagel Stone's Jazzmakers, the band who taught St Vitus how to dance. And she's wearing a sparkling lobelia-coloured georgette dress. Nothing can flap the unflappable Phryne -especially on a dance floor with so many delectable partners. Nothing except death, that is.

Always love these. Maybe a little less singing, but great story nonetheless. Love the tie in to actual history.

Too Implausible
Revisado: 11-22-23
If I could figure out who recommended this book to me I would love to tell them they’re no longer a trusted source. So many parts of this book are absolutely implausible. I sped it up to try to get it over with. It was still too long. Don’t waste a credit.

Historia
In Phryne's third adventure, Phryne is off to Ballarat for a week of fabulousness, but the sedate journey by train turns out to be far from the restful trip she was planning. What was planned as a restful country sojourn turns into the stuff of nightmares: a young girl who can't remember anything, rumours of vile white slavery and the body of an old woman missing her emerald rings.

I’ve enjoyed all of this series. The only irritating part is the attempt at a US southern accent.

But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

Left you hanging
Revisado: 01-11-23
There were some good plot twists and turns but it’s inexplicable that the author didn’t resolve the heroine’s fate. There were also some points that the author spelled out that didn’t really need to be. The performance was very good though.

I love when I learn something from a book. This really opened my eyes to the modern day atrocities still persisting in a developing country with rich natural resources. I loved the addition of the “Nigeria Facts” as part of the main characters education. I’ve already recommended this book to friends. The narrator is amazing.

Historia
They are Hazel, James, Aubrey, and Colette. A classical pianist from London, a British would-be architect turned soldier, a Harlem-born ragtime genius in the US Army, and a Belgian orphan with a gorgeous voice and a devastating past. Their story, as told by goddess Aphrodite, who must spin the tale or face judgment on Mount Olympus, is filled with hope and heartbreak, prejudice and passion, and reveals that, though war is a formidable force, it's no match for the transcendent power of love.

An appropriate listen for February- Black History month. The story is one I didn’t know about the African American troops in WWI. I love the way the author weaves real life characters in with fictional ones. I love historical novels and this one delivers.

Erin Gibson has a singular goal - to create a utopian future where women are recognized as humans. In Feminasty - titled after her nickname on the hit podcast Throwing Shade - she has written a collection of make-you-laugh-until-you-cry essays that expose the hidden rules that make life as a woman unnecessarily hard and deconstructs them in a way that's bold, provocative, and hilarious.

Erin Gibson is hilarious, irreverent, poignant, boisterous and all around on point. As an Irish lady, I want to have drinks with. I also want pick her brain on the topics she lists at the end that were not covered. I actually took notes on some of the action items for women to have more control of the retail portion of our lives. Bravo Erin.

Historia
In a strange world where Rose McGowan was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them.

Revisado: 01-30-20
This book was an eye opening account of the misogyny in the entertainment industry. The abuse that is commonplace and overlooked is horrendous. Thank you to Rose McGowan for being Brave and telling this story. Sometimes we can’t fix it for ourselves, but we can make it better for the next person. Kudos to you for seeing that and making the sacrifice.
