So glad it’s over. Like a dark cloud the whole way through.

Let me start by saying I ADORE KH’s books. If you only knew and on second thought are two of my all-time favorites. But this one was a huge miss for me.

The storyline was a cool idea but it was so SAD-the entire way through. I keep describing it as a dark cloud…that’s how I felt the whole time and I just kept waiting for something uplifting and bright to come in and change the trajectory. But no. It’s sad and solemn and depressing the whole way. I completely understand why this man is sad of course. His wife dies tragically at a super young age and then has letters delivered to him each month after her death so she can help him through his grief. It’s sad, there’s no way around it. But he just never seemed to get better. I love that he makes a friend at some point but that’s kind of the highlight for me. The last 5 minutes are good because he finally seems happy but holy cow.

I feel like there could have been so many ways to liven up the book to help pull him out of his pain and despair. But it was flat the whole way through. I had to force myself to finish this one.

If you’re expecting a regular KH novel, this is not it. :(

I chose this book because I love a good “laugh out loud” novel as it is described. This was not it. I can’t think of a single time I even chuckled. However, it was still a good enough book. I loved the relationship Aggie built with her students but overall, it was a little boring and the climax went over with a whimper. Very forgettable and not what I was hoping for but the narrator was great and if you’re looking for a light read, this is a decent one.

This book was fine. The hot guy falls in love with the less than perfect girl, she can't believe anyone like him could love her because she's slightly overweight and there are a ton of ridiculous misunderstandings along the way. Again, the story is fine if you are in the mood for a predictable love story with some steamy scenes. What I couldn't get past from the first sentence though was the narrator, who is clearly an older woman, reading the part of 30-year-old Summer. The narrator sounds like she is in her 60s so it was really hard for me to picture Summer as a young woman. During the steamy love scenes, it really got awkward. Like your grandmother reading a dirty book out loud to you. The book would have been SO much better with a narrator the right age.

Don't get me wrong. The narrator was good, just wrong for this book. So wrong. And the fake TX accent was a little much at times too. So if you can get past that, the book is a solid 3 or 3.5.

I hate to leave bad reviews but this book kind of deserves one. It’s completely honest anyway. This book was so boring. You keep waiting for something to happen. But nothing does. You keep waiting for a twist or some giant reveal and nope. To be fair, there is ONE slightly dramatic scene toward the end of the book by even that is a 3 on a scale of 1-10 in drama. And there IS a little “I didn’t see that coming at the end” but it wasn’t a wow moment.

You never get to know Kristin before she disappears. You never get to know the husband before she disappears. I couldn’t even imagine what the neighbors looked like in my mind because there was no real description. There was a side love triangle thing she tried to make work in the story but there is no point to it. The writing style was fine but the book was missing plot twists, drama, shock, emotion...it was just boring day to day lives of be neighbors and then wondering where Kristin went.

And by the way, it’s also completely predictable. Not even much of a hint of it being anything but what the author leads you to believe. This is not a thriller on any level so if that’s what your going for, stick to books like The Wife Between Us and The Last Mrs. Parrish. I’m so confused how anyone can think this a 5 Star book. NOTHING HAPPENS. Exactly what parts were so amazing? Again, I hate being ugly about a book but after reading her first book I was excited about this one. Skip it.

This book was fine. It just seemed a little long winded. It was predictable and sweet. But I found myself ready for it to be over.

This book had potential but just wasn't executed well. Most of the time it felt like important character developments were rushed through. For example, one of the girls sees her cute new neighbor for 30 seconds, then he randomly shows up at her door to ask this stranger for help with his daughter who needs to take her (basic) medicine and she ends up staying for dinner. He asks her to dinner after that and after a seemingly unremarkable date she's magically in love and they have some amazing "connection". But I never really understood how or why they felt this connection. It doesn't go deep enough into this. I felt all of of the characters were under developed and rolled my eyes a lot at some of the ridiculous stuff. Some lady at her work seems to hate her for something the second she meets her but we don't really know why until they mention something about the guy she's now seeing. (Seems like a bit of an overreaction). Scary Notes with one word on them (bad words) result in the woman immediately calling a group meeting after work to talk about things instead of just telling them what the note said over the phone. I don't know. The whole thing felt like it had potential but didn't go deep enough. Don't see how it got 5 stars from anyone.

I usually love her books but this one could not keep me engaged. I felt like there was always a new character being introduced and not enough depth given to the main ones. I just couldn't get into it. Still a fan but this one just wasn't my favorite.

Great book! I love Jane Green. Does anyone know if there is a sequel? It alludes to one but I haven't found one yet. Anyway, great story although it does drive me CRAZY that Alice won't stand up for herself throughout much of the book. The narrator does a great job as well and makes it a pleasure to listen to.

Filthy and Very Disappointing Ending!!

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-14-11

I'll be fair and say this book kept me wanting to hurry and get to the end so I could find out whose husband was the cheater! I couldn't wait for it all to come together and make sense at the end. Needless to say, I never found out. After having to listen to an overwhelming amount of very graphic "love" scenes that seemed to take up the majority of the book (and yes, I like a "love" scene EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE but this was ridiculous), the author leaves us hanging in the end. I got to the point where I'd roll my eyes when ANOTHER love scene started up. I would speed through it just so I could hear more of the actual story. When the narrator said "The End" at the end of the book I wanted to throw my phone out the window b/c I was so mad I'd sat through the entire book waiting to find out who did it in the end. This would have been a much better book if it would have had some closure. But you are left wondering with no real clues even to help you guess. Ughhh...very mad. And I feel like I need a shower to wash away all the filth.
