Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

My story too
Revisado: 08-20-24
The story as easy to listen like chatting with a friend telling their thoughts about their life story. I could imagine sitting right next to her, listening to her share about her mom and brother, and their important relationship to her life. It was very close family.

Historia
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

I seldom reread (relisten) to a book. BUT, this book has so much to offer! It is rich with context that could go on in different directions AND remained a great book!

There’s an African proverb that says “It takes a village to raise a child”. Hollywood producer and best-selling author DeVon Franklin offers a personal twist: It Takes a Woman. In this riveting and soul-stirring Audible Original, Franklin introduces us to the women who raised him—a “village of love” that selflessly came together to shape him into the man he is today.

Yes, it DOES take a WOMAN! Thank you very much!
Revisado: 10-10-22
This book spoke into and about my own life! I was not a black boy, but instead a girl raised by her grandmother, great aunt, “aunties”, and we were multiracial in a time when that was not in vogue so you said white. But I heard and felt love from your family into my heart like I had not had since my Grand passed to be with Our Father in Heaven. Your book filled my soul with bits and pieces I didn’t know were missing! Thank you so very much for taking the time to speak with them to create it! PS: To Paulette, as my own Momma did her very best, you did too! Do not ever short what the Lord has gifted you! He gave you the wisdom to call upon the beautiful woman who raised you! I had that same blessing! She was there for me for so many things in my life I cannot even tell you! We had them, they helped us!
